I suppose it's open to interpretation though, something that is dark or disturbing may not be so to someone else so really depends how comfortable you are with such things. Honestly think I get more anxiety from raiding and using the DF than any cutscene in the game...

Yes, just not play the game is the answer. If you can't handle story that hasn't always a happy end then this game is really not for you. Even if you skip the cutscene your good bud Haurchefant will be still gone and you will still have to deal with that if you actually care. You really think SE will put in filters or any other solution for such a small amount of players who can't handle their stuff?

And that isn't even about flaming the poor guy here, if he really has health issues when he is confronted with such stuff then he shouldn't play, yeah. For his healths sake and cause the storytelling won't change and will only get darker. So if he can't handle it he should step away and not cause i don't want these filters or any solution that may help in this case, just simply because it won't change for sure and he should do what is best for his health.

As someone who also has anxiety - i know everyone has different triggers. My anxiety trigger is when i feel random pains in my body that feel off then i start to panic thinking something's happening to me. Sometimes i have massive panic attacks like the time i first had acid reflux and i completely had a body/mental shutdown because i didn't know what was happening. However, after reading your post i feel like you may be over exaggerating on some points.

While I do sympathize to an extent, I fully recognize that these moments would lose a lot of their impact for many people if they came with a direct warning. As has been pointed out, the game's ESRB rating does point toward the fact that mature themes are present and not everything that happens in this game is gonna be sunshine and rainbows.

As for the more horror/jumpscarey elements... imagine watching any sort of horror/thriller/slasher flick where, when the killer is about to emerge and strike at our hapless heroine, a countdown of 10 seconds and a description of exactly what will happen when it reaches zero just appeared on the screen. Pretty much wouldn't even make sense to call it horror anymore; if this actually ended up in any "horror" movie people would be calling it a parody or a joke instead. Horror's whole effectiveness hinges on you not knowing what is going to happen, and even if you DO know what's going to happen, you don't know exactly when, or how. The surprise element is vital.

As far as FFXIV is concerned, the game doesn't delve THAT frequently into outright horror. Which helps keep it effective the few times it does show up, because you probably aren't expecting it. Again, that's the whole point.

Regarding character deaths in particular, designers/writers WANT them to feel like gut punches. They are trying to avoid the Eight Deadly Words: "I don't care what happens to these people." If it felt like a gutpunch, that's a clear sign that they designed/wrote the character well enough to the point that you grew some degree of an attachment to said character, as opposed to not giving a crap what happens to them.

Saying "the game has a rating" while true, isn't verry helpful. What is TC supposed to do? Just not play the game?

It could be a opt in option, so that those who don't want it never have to see it.
Best comment here. Make warnings for those scenes, but give the option to toggle it on/off. Those who need warnings use them, those who don't want any spoilers just turn them off.

I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.

I'm not averse to the idea, but that still doesn't change how much it would still ruin the story by taking the shock value away.

No every game is for every one. There's people that don't play this game because it doesn't have what they want just as there is people that don't play this game because it's not graphic enough given the themes it involves.

May be a little drifting from the topic, but there are people that check a movie's/book's ending first before enjoying it. They do want a certain outcome, but still enjoy the story after being spoiled. Would you tell those people to just not read the book or watch the movie that seems interesting to them? Same principle.

Some people do want to be spoiled. Just make it an option you have to actively turn on and nothing changes for most of us.

Not going to happen, as i said. SE won't implement stuff like that for like 0,001% of the playerbase. And as i said i am not even against such stuff, i just can tell it won't happen and thus the TC will suffer again and again. Especially tho cause haurchefant will be still gone, you will be still confronted with specific things.

So since SE will never ever implement such stuff it would be better for people who have health issues cause of such stuff to just stop playing the game. If you have issues with your liver you also don't start drinking alcohol cause it's fun.

Perhaps Maplestory 2 or Gaia Online would be more your speed?

If there are trigger warnings for everything scary or disturbing, they would have to be off by default, only showing if the player chooses to turn them on through the Accessibility options. I would only support default-on trigger warnings for the most ultra-disturbing stuff, for example in Modern Warfare 2, where (Spoiler/Disturbing, highlight to reveal) you are with a group of terrorists shooting up an airport, Columbine-style. You are given a trigger warning before that mission with the option to skip, you can skip from the main menu at any time during that mission, and there are no achievements or unlockables tied to that mission. As far as I'm aware, FF14 doesn't have any content that meets that criteria for default-on trigger warnings.
