False Necro is still false, and a Necro.
The FF series on a whole is quite feminine, which is also I think why it has such a large female fanbase.
With that said, considering how extremely hyper-masculine the gaming industry on a whole is then is that actually a problem if some games are more feminine or a bit of both?
I am personally extremely tired of most of what the Western game industry is.
I think that people attribute '' coolness '' too much to masculinity too, but that's a matter of perception and opinion.
There is no objective '' cool '', and perhaps people could learn to just not play games that don't appeal to their sensabilities instead of arguing about it all the time?
If someone doesn't like the FF franchise and FFXIV being more feminine than the typical video game then they have almost every single other video game in existence to pick from.
Even for all of this talk about '' appealing to women '' almost the entire industry is still all about making sure of adhering to the masculine side of coolness.
Like you can have super ultra masculine edge lord games, but you can't stray too far into femininity because then you might upset dudebros and game devs and publishers still want their money.
I think people can deal with a game every now and again not worrying too much about that.
Edit: I didn't see the date of the thread, but oh well lol.
I'm gay man and the only thing I find mildly upsetting about FFXIV in terms of feminine/masculine is the apparent connection between game roles and genders.
Specifically, the Healer role seems to be tied to feminity (Graceful animations, pretty white dresses, magical sparkles, fairies, stars and most official art seems to always depict females in healer gear.)
I understand there is a stereotype in gaming about girls usually playing support, but I hope that, if we get a fourth healer the animations and aesthetic will be a bit more gruff and less magical girl.
Likewise, I hope for the opposite too, a more graceful dps/tank (althought we got Dancer this time)
I mean, every healer trust and Scion we have are males, so that’s already breaking that supposed gender stereotype no? Nothing about magical particles, moving or fighting elegantly or summoning magical creatures is intrinsically feminine, that’s just what you’ve been programmed to see it as. I mean god man, STARS are feminine?! Incomprehensibly massive entities of fire, energy, enough gravity to crush you into a pulp and enough energy to create black holes and supernovas, why the hell is that seen as gendered now? Just stop worrying if something looks “girly” or “manly”, it’s all a load of bs.Specifically, the Healer role seems to be tied to feminity (Graceful animations, pretty white dresses, magical sparkles, fairies, stars and most official art seems to always depict females in healer gear.)

Yeah, both scion trusts are males that's true. Maybe gendering the role wasn't the appropriate approach. Rather, the feel of brutishness and gracefulness.
But with regards to stop worrying about what looks "manly" and "girly" I simply won't stop. I find " traditional manliness" or in this case, "brutishness" more appealing. The fact that it's generally associated with masculinity may be arbitrary but I find it visually appealing nonetheless. I am all for variety within the roles. Let's have more graceful tanks, let's have more sparkly dps. But I also wan't a brutish healer.
The magical girl thing is a theme in the aesthetic approach to healer visual design, we can't deny that. There is nothing wrong with that.
I thought paladin counts as the more graceful tank? And samurai for melee DPS. Also definitely bard and dancer.
Also, faerie's common-association-with-feminity aside, scholar seems pretty neutral.
(And yeah, "stars are feminine" makes no sense as an argument. Why shouldn't magic involve sparkles?)
Heard there was a necro thread party, beating a dead horse, so I just wanted to say hi!

A lot of people don't play because of what this game looks like. I also think if a person is a customer, or a prospective customer, they have a right to voice their own opinions - whether they are positive or not. I hate that whenever the FFXIV community is shown anything negative the first thing they always jump to is "go play something else".The FF series on a whole is quite feminine, which is also I think why it has such a large female fanbase.

Edit: I didn't see the date of the thread, but oh well lol.But no, even the majority of your not super masculine outfits in this game look pretty bad. At least there is a fairly large amount of things to work with, using their archaic glamour system. So you can dump some of the worst looking bits off of pieces.
