How can an AAA title like FF 14 lack voice acting in 90% of the quests?

I feel I may have crossed over to the dark side as I'm starting to agree with a lot of his base points. Some of the additional reasoning that's added I don't always agree with, but are people really shooting down more VA just because it's a RagingStallion thread?

The thing about Titanman is that he purposefully creates threads about legitimate grievances others have had with the game, that just so happen to be controversial. He then twists it into the most stretched and exaggerated form possible to create bait & flame threads.

Square uses most of the budget to promote their crap mobile games. That's why

You pay for not only the initial cost which is $60 but you also have to pay a subscription fee which is $13. On top of that because the retainer spaces are so limited to fully play the game you actually also need to pay at least 2 retainers each month which is $4. So over six months, you're paying $102+$60, which is $182.

Now $182 is basically equal to three the Last of Us II. But TLoU 2 has voice acting everywhere and even the menu has voice acting. Sadly while the story of this game is entertaining I always have to lower my eyeballs to read the text and I can't look at the characters' facial expressions and follow the dialogue at the same time which ruins my immersion. Has Square Enix considered investing more into voice acting? A story game should have voice acting. This isn't 1990.

Log on and do /playtime. I know my own is around 360+ days. That is nearly a year spent inside this virtual world. The grand total amount of actual USD I have put into the game is easily less than $500 USD. Name anything on this planet other than another mmo than can provide 8640 hours of entertainment for 500 bucks. What you potentially receive in entertainment value in comparison to what you pay monthly is in your favor in a big way. I suggest shifting your perspective.

Voice actors also have bills to pay, and they require the same for their services. And in cases such as Midgarsormr 2.x, and then afterwards; these actors are not always available. It also weighs heavy on time constraints, especially if said voice actor has a schedule to follow, so things have to line up. There is just a ton going on that you don't see.

I've actually complimented him on his skill of walking that fine line. lol Despite his intentions, I do think it could actually bring up interesting conversations on (some) topics if you just ignore all the crazy fluff he tends to include in the post and just take the base argument for what it is.

ESO has all voices sidequests and main quest and it's not substancially bigger or slower to make. we usually get 2 big maps per year plus 4 dungeons, and some other stuff over it.

Yeah I figure this thing has got to be a cash cow for them. I get confused why they have not removed the FF14 label from this MMO and just called it Final Fantasy World by this point. It still does seem to be a very Japan focused MMO from how the information slowly leaks out on new features and lengthy times/community support for unofficial translations.

Voices doesn't make the storytelling magically better ; it's more like the cherry on top of the cake
And the state of the cake is already worrying... sometime we get nice cut-scenes, like some 5.3 MSQ, but there are still far too many placeholder-like animation and camera.
Or just cut-scene where they dont give a ****. For example the special scene at the dwarf bar, I don't think it would have been so difficult to show our character shaking the cocktail (the animation exists) instead of yet another black screen...
