    Request for item/system implementation.

Can we get a new item that's basically a "portable allagan music player"

With it, we can change our personal bgm to any of the orchestration rolls we've acquired. Or, like the jukebox, set a playlist.

Perhaps independent of this, we could have different types of headphone glamour.

I only ask of this, because there are areas in the game like the mists, or the gold saucer where the bgm get's old really quick, and it would be nice to be able to make more use of the orchestration rolls we get in game. Otherwise, I'm stuck toggling mute all the time if I plan to be somewhere for any extended stay. The alternative is of course loading up an external music playlist, but there's a lot of good bgm in this game, and it's disappointing that I can only make use of those rolls in an inn/apartment/house. I rarely spend any length of time in those places.

    No.

Seriously: This is being brought up time and time again and the devs are aware of this wish. However, they've actually adressed it as being something that is not possible with the way this game handles its audio-files - I cant claim that I understand how or why its not possible because I dont know anything about coding such things, all I know is that its apparently pretty difficult within the code of this game. Does that suck? Yes. Is there a magic wand to just fix the code issues that prevent us from getting such things? Nope. Would it be worth to re-do the whole code and basically build the game from the ground up again? Probably not. So... the last answer here is: Yes, we do have to live with those shortcomings until they find a workaround. If they find a workaround.

Until then, best way to handle it would be to mute the game and turn on your own music in the background instead. Or just mute the music of the game, if you need soundeffects etc. for timing and the like.

But it is not hard to let special music play when you mount up? I have several ex mounts and savage mounts and they all have their own unique song and they play just fine whenever I mount up.

I wonder why an MP3 player would be hard but having hundreds of mounts with all their own unique music is not.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Its my understanding that thats "hard" aswell - as in: each mount can play excatly one different piece of music and thats it. Thats why they asked on occassion if we'd like to get the music on certain mounts (Sephirot-bird comes to mind) changed: Because its impossible to play more than one piece of music.
So what seems to be possible is to change the music to one specific song when you mount up and that song is tied to that specific mount - picking and choosing is not possible with the current system.

Music/Sound seems to be pretty difficult within the code of the game - I dont know if you remember this but when they introduced the Orchestrion at first the music it played came from that item instead of replacing the normal background music in the house. So you could only hear the song you wanted to if you stood next to the Orchestrion - it took them a while to figure out how to replace the background music in the house for good.

Mounts seem to have one "music-slot" and that can only be set to one song. Its not the same as replacing background music with anything you like.

...though at the end of the day its probably neither you or me who can tell how hard such a feature would actually be to implement - all I know is that the devs adressed this issue directly (something that doesnt happen with everything, so I suppose this is something they noticed as important to their playerbase) and said that it cant be done - at least not easly. And honestly, if it would be that easy... dont you think they'd already done it? If they could use the same solution they're using for the mount music or the orchestrion, dont you think they'd implemented this, knowing that they are aware of this wish?

A lot of things in this game seem to be programmed really backwards. The orchestrion has a preview feature where you can listen to the songs, but I guess that's somehow tied to actually having the orchestrion furnishing in the area. Like the glamour dresser is apparently somehow tied to the "owner" of the current area in a way that makes the game crash if multiple players in the same area try to use one, and that's why they haven't added it as a furnishing yet.
