I get how goals and content help keep LSs together and working toward getting everyone outfitted and that has value. I don't get why we need direct competition which hinders others to accomplish that. Things like claim wars only bring resentment and hatred of others. Whoever ends up getting the claim will not be the object of admiration of those who didn't get the claim. They'll either get pissed and leave or keep trying and get more pissed if they keep getting outclaimed.

It's not like "Oh man! You guys are so cool! How can I learn to claim NMs faster than everyone else?!" The losing groups just get mad.

I get that events and whatnot can help keep an LS together by giving them goals but again, goals do no require direct competition and hindering the same goals of others in the process.

Gaths concerns made me think of a couple of inverviews with Yoshi-P i read a while ago.

Here yoishi touches on how he envisions the free company as compared to linkshells. Pretty much talking about this loyalty issue. Seems like you may be forced into belonging to only one.

Then in this, free company is mentioned again in relation to summoning primals. Looks like we may have some competition through this down the road. Only one group can hold the rights to summon a primal for a time. Will it turn into instance camping?... Maybe.

Either way, might be something to look forward to which may fill this void Gath has pointed out.

Cya around Gath, I very much enjoyed your posts and agree with you 100% about shells destroying themselves by forming clique shells outside of the original shell. Its one of the reasons Seraphim has decided to never go this route. Instead we decided to form a ruleset for our more goal oriented members to tackle the harder content in the game their reward is invite priority to events labeled in a certain way to show it was part of the ruleset we put in place. We came to this decision after watching many shells on Mysidia go the same route as you describe in your OP.

Though I dont necessarily agree with long spawn timer HNM's since IMO they just create more hate then competition I do agree with the rest of your farewell thread.
