i for one just glad that none of them (especially key staff like yoshi) get covid, if one of them get it forget 5.3, we might not get anything new until next year.

5.3 coming out this august actually surprised me, i was expecting around november/december or at worse next year.

While I think the relic should be implemented earlier in an expansion (similar to ARR/HW), covid-19 didn't really show that at all. It's been something that people have been noticing since SB's delay on Eureka weapons.

Besides that, just because the patch got delayed by 2 months, doesn't mean you're chained to this game alone. There's plenty of other games to enjoy when there's not much to do in XIV. Personally, I used the content lull to scratch my WoW itch, and catch up on stuff there, prior to that game's new expansion.

In case you weren’t aware, YoshiP is on record saying it was never his intent for people to be playing this game full time and that the content is not meant to encompass all your “game time”.

You do realize that he has continually stated that stance, whereas housing was a more constantly evolving thing, right?

Being here since 2016, you should also be aware that have had a formula for how to release content more or less on rails since 2.0, and have largely stuck by the timing so well that content creators could guesstimate future patch dates with relative accuracy.

..and that whenever asked about lulls, the devs had said stuff like “good time to go play Nier!” or whatever.

Now there is a massive pandemic, an event entirely out of their hands. It took something like a month to set up telework capabilities, delaying work and their patch schedule.

It’s at best a straw man argument, but your really just comparing apples and oranges to even think main content/patch cycles are even comparable to the side project that was housing.

They put relics out because it's a compromise between how powerful they are and how powerful the raid weapons are. They want to make them just as strong as raid weapons, to satisfy the time investment, but they don't want that strength to be accessible and negate all other weapons, like primal weapons, extreme weapons, crafted, normal mode raid etc. If they did release relic sooner, the starting stages would be weaker, and they would only climb to the current highest weapon and then stop. They will not go back on that compromise.

They also know there are players who will neglect real life until their relic is complete, is the other reason they won't undo this compromise. They don't want players to feel like they are forced to have a relic to participate in content.

The game doesn't need to be your life.

Ummm... but then we have things like Firmament leaderboards that it's pretty much: no life until is done. I doubt SE care that much about us, it's more to avoid overlapping.

I'm paying for a product, I don't mind pay even more if that will give me more content to do. When he first said about unsubing, game was still in a fresh state after reborn, nowadays it's one of the biggest MMO on the market and listening words that being said 5 years ago is not relevant anymore.
