Well, aren't houses a commodity? I don't see anything wrong in that, especially since they blocked players from buying up properties. If I buy a plot, build a house, and find a larger plot that someone wants to sell me, sure, I'll sell my smaller plot, if I got the gil they ask. Why does everything have to be made so complicated?

I think the correct way to do it is to reimburse them whatever they paid, and expropriate the plots, for the good of the community. That's what the governments do in real-life, and I don't see any reason why SE should act any different. It's not like those players will quit the game over that, considering their investment in the game, while others might quit because it's damned near impossible to get a house, unless you buy on the open market.
