Angry much? You've attempted to berate the OP with narcissistic subterfuge because of his personal opinion, yet everything you've said is also personal opinion. Hmm...

Anyway, ignoring the immature aspects of some posts on this thread: It can be argued that competition is are is not healthy. We could also sit here like little children and shoot down each others perspectives which don't match our own personal desires.

However, "balance" is the keyword here.

The reason for most if the quarrels in this thread boils down to a fact: MMOs have different Tiers of player types. So in order to keep the game healthy there needs to be content for each. Casuals, Mediocre, and Hardcore (maybe there are more than three and maybe you call then different things).

Gath does touch on some aspects that are ever occurring. Loyalty is a big one. Linkshell loyalty doesn't mean much to casual players. Why? Because there's little to nothing at stake. However, for players who have a higher playtime or skill lvl, they see loyalty as "ppl like me that will minimize wasted playtime through efficiency that a less involved/caring player wouldn't necessarily offer".

Phrases like "you just want to be put on a pedestal" are proof of this concept. Players who don't see a MMO as a competition are playing for different reasons. They don't want competition. That's cool. That's where balance comes in. We don't ban football or athletics because ppl exist that can barely tie their shoes much less throw a football.

"Different strokes for different folks."

So the real message of this thread should be seen as: Dear SE, we top tier players look forward to you adding more challenging content with which we can find pride for completion and competition. <Yes Please.>

I'm not angry I'm just stating a point. I didn't mean to come across that way, so forgive me that. And as far as balance goes I did say I supported PVP and other group vs group based events, but I felt it was unnecessary to pit groups against groups just for a chance to fight an NM or something. And I have been civilized with a few hints of sarcasm, and I'm sorry if I hurt Gath's feelings somehow, but I'm pretty sure a guy that speaks in the third person has enough ego for everyone here and he'll be fine. I don't know how people go about deciding which LS on a server is better than another, but I do know I love my LS, we do end game content well, we respect others, and we don't state how "awesome" we are over other linkshells on our server. I guess these things really matter to some people. To be, in their eyes, "the best." But I honestly feel some of the suggestions of Gath's are just a way for other linkshells to state dominance over others. Which, whether or not camping makes a come back, linkshells will do anyway. If everything remains instanced in this game, players will still try to split hairs to figure out how they are possibly better than everyone else. I don't think there needs to be anymore reasons for drama, badmouthing, etc. If this view is narcissistic, then please forgive me, but to me it looks like it's the other way around.

I agree with Gath. Competition is central to the way we think, and indeed the driving force behind nature itself. Those who believe otherwise have most likely been brought up with this new-age, man-made notion that even the losers deserve a trophy. They don't. Winners get the trophy, losers either go home and start working on getting better. In nature, the winner gets to eat and the loser doesn't. Going against that is to go against the way your mind works, whether you realize/accept it or not.

To say that competition isn't needed in PVE is incredibly naive. To say that it would ruin social shells is equally naive. To say that what SE has right now is what they should continue with is perhaps -the most- naive. The proof is in the pudding-- people like a good scrap, and ffxiv doesn't give it to them.

Also: Get over the way Gath writes. Seriously. Get over it. It's especially ironic when people call HIM immature in the midst of their incessant whining about something so trivial.

Of course everyone wants to be seen as correct and seldom wrong. To this we err as humanity: A lesson teaching it's own unkempt discretion in entropy.

Mostly everyone I know that plays MMOs plays them "to be part of the elite". Of course I know some that say the opposite. Such is reality that seldom exists an uneven polarity in any given comparison.

If these types of mentality offend you then "Stay the moral high ground" and ignore them. Because otherwise it really is a waste of effort trying to dilute or refute a mindset that is already ingrained in multitudes of various contenders of event based past times/hobbies.

Otherwise they have already succeeded in subjugating you to their will.

If you want to call me offering you advice "debating". Sadly it is not.

My advice was to "not worry" about others and how they play FF.

You seem hellbent on usurping anyone who doesn't ratify any of your previous statements regardless of the context or purpose of their additions.
