I 100% agree about the Rogue/Ninja thing. I have always disliked ninjas in Final Fantasy games ever since Edge, who is one of the most lame characters in Final Fantasy history. But Thieves are awesome. Locke and Zidane are cool. Edge is lame. Should have gone rogue -> Thief instead of ninja.

Rogue already has Mug and Thief would be too limiting as a job identity unless they can make an interesting mechanic for Steal/Mug. Assassin would be a better alternative for advancement of a Rogue class. Or just keep it as Rogue.

Again, this is just me: but I hate ninja animations. You're just too... slick. And while that fits a pracitioner of ninjitsu fine, it's downright stupid for a former rogue.

In some ways, I feel like rogues have more in common with red mage... and that is to say: the transition from rogue -> swashbuckler is easier for me to buy off on than thief -> master assassin.

Well, the thing is, one of Rogue's signature abilities is Hide and the class uses a pair of daggers as weapons. That fits Assassin/Ninja quite well.

I feel like a Red Mage/Swashbuckler would be more of an in-your-face type of duelist rather than someone who would be sneaking around. And if you're sneaking around, you have to be pretty slick in my opinion.

I believe they said the reason we never gotten thief is because of lore reasons. They didn't want the WoL being a thief.
It's why the rogues are basically vigilante in FFXIV instead of what they're usually are in fantasy settings.....that and in FF lore. Thief becomes ninja.
