Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

I personally would have preferred full Vieras instead of Hrothgar. Not because of genderlocking being an issue or not. I'm just not a fan of feline races so it's a personal preference. But I do understand why they went with the choice they made, since it appeals to another demographic in the player base and even new players that didn't play the game due to the lack of these races.



Where/when did they say that? Also, that doesn't make it a promise that they won't do it. If they thought that genderlocking was the best choice for the game, they would still do it. To them, adding these two new races fulfills the request of more players than one full race.

tbh, seeing how poorly hrotgar males at least are designed, they should've just given us a completely different beast race. Also I dont get why we have 2 cat races in the game. I think that the bara/furry/ESO Horde WoW demographic would have prefered Lupin or actual Ronso or anything like that over what we got tbh

I'd have preferred it if Hrothgar looked closer to the Ronso of FFX, though I don't mind the presence of more than one cat based race in the game. Miqo'te barely qualify as is given that they're 90% human other than their tail and ears. Beefy cat men are also pretty popular in Japan as a concept based on the art I've seen floating around online.

After seeing Hrothgars "in the wild" (pun very MUCH intended), I think they're ADORABLE. Their /sit pose is SO CUTE and they're like huge flooffy plushie cats that would go "mrow" if you squeeze them. Don't think I'd play one myself but if there were fem!Hroth (and I liked the design) I probably would, seeing as how I'm considering actually playing my Femroe alt because I like their look.

More on-topic: it wasn't a "promise" iirc so much as a general expression of dislike for the concept of gender-locks, and a sort of "commitment" to do right by the fanbase. Of course, we know dev priorities change, and I DO believe that Yoshi-P was faced with a very tough decision after being told the next race would be the last one. At least the dev team is now aware of the desire for m!Viera and f!Hroth; with any hope, we could see some confirmation (legalese: in a timeframe when the dev team is comfortable with and doesn't take away from other confirmed projects for FFXIV, silence on the issue is not a confirmation that they are or are not going to be implemented)

Oh! Also, I've said this before but it's surely gotten lost in the 1.2k pages, but months (years?) after Yoshi-P said about introducing another race because "Male Viera would be weird" they released concept art of HW, which included concept art for the Viera, male and female, so we know they were thinking of them at SOME POINT.

I would have prefered full lupin over hroth/viera. We already had a cat race in game so to me, it was an odd choice to add another cat race, just bigger. And if they would have added full ronso, it just would have been the same as hroth, just smaller.

While im happy with hroth, i would have liked if maybe male hroth had female rougadyn body type. The whole barrel chest haunched over looks odd, but when they do stand upright, they look ok.

I guess I'll rephrase the quesiton. Would female and male Viera supportes would have preferred full Lupin race instead of what we got? I'd say yes, full Lupin with badass female Lupin would've added real flavor, compared to the half-race we got with Viera/Hrothgar.

I honestly dont understand why so many wanted viera so hard in the first place. Its honestly just another human with animal ears. We already have human, human with long neck, human with dragon horns and scales, human with cat ears and cat tail, and humanized potato. As much as i wish we had gotten lupin, at least hroth isnt just big human with cat ears and tail, while viera is just human with bunny ears.

No. I don't think the majority of viera supporters (male or female) would have preferred a ful llupin race. Viera are attractive and being near human is why people like them. The people who want(ed) lupin are probably, like, furries, and the devs stated they only wanted to release a beast race to appease the crowd who wanted one; to fill out the races. This was going to supposedly be their "last chance" to add in any races, so they added hrothgar for this reason, and viera because the community had been wanting to play as viera for years and years.

You do understand Feline Beast Races are popular in General Right?
This isnt some stunt to specifically target ES fans much less GW fans.
Even though I myself also love the Hrothgar (just a cat person in general) the Khajiit and Charr are better developed, and have more history to them.
So....I'm not quite understanding the idea or logic that the Hrothgar were made to draw in Elder Scrolls or Guild Wars fans. Their games handled their Beast Cats better, so it's not like there is any special draw to them in FFxiv

GW2 was crashing and burning in 2018. What XIV offers over them is not a better cat race but a better game; GW2 isn't in maintenance mode right now for no reason. FFXIV offers Charr players a big and thriving population, you know the first reason to play an mmorpg? As far as Elders Scrolls, well while it's still doing well what better way to pique their interesting, as well as World of warcraft players who were looking for the exodus.

I always laugh when you think this is not the case. If adding Ronso mattered that much to them they would've added them with Heavensward.

I don't get just why they did hrotgar males the way they did. They took the most unpopular race in the game, added new textures and head, edited their animations and expected them to be popular. I just wish we had gotten a cool looking fierce/ primal looking beast race which, other than in female hrotgar, has almsot 0 chance of happening right now. Also hrotgar males look kinda like roes in well designed fursuits? Oh, and one thing I've noticed is hat while their body type is different than roes, whenever you equip gear, u just go back to the refrigerator build. Very dissapoining if u ask me. I think female viera even if they cant wear headwear or have limited options are very well done in their animations and the model itself, which is one of the reason why I would've prefered male viera over male hrotgar. Imo, it would have certainly been good if they just gave us lupin as well, many people wanted them too
