so ISP problem.

so ISP problem.

Possibly at times, but it's exasperated by the horrendous "default" lag time introduced by keeping the servers based in Japan, and further compounded by the client lag (which will hopefully be fixed). Due to the server location most NA players have to go through several hops to reach the game servers, and your network speed is only as fast as your slowest server along the way. For instance, at times when the speed is especially bad, I can force FFXIV to be proxied via a server I have access to in California. It effectively completely changes the route the traffic takes, and speeds the game up considerably (though forcing it is a bit of a hassle, so I don't usually).
Unfortunately the client fix is probably all we can hope for, since people have complained about the server location in FFXI (and numerous people were infuriated about being outclaimed on HNMs due to lag) and SE has completely ignored any requests for a fix.
EDIT: tl;dr, small lag spikes are part of the internet, SE should cater to that fact.

Account deactivated. Holding out for Guild Wars 2.

I'm betting on ISP problem, 85% of the time I do Ifrit there is next to no lag. And when there is lag, It's always because I'm running other programs or downloading large files.
Sorry, I know people love to say this is trolling but I play with a lot of folks who have lag issues. It can be overcome and it just takes practice. Yes, it shouldn't be this way but it is and it will be for a long while more. Adapt and make do.
And about animation locking, well, that's your own fault. You should know your class well enough and know the fight well enough to not animation lock at bad times. If you can't overcome that then you are just spamming WS and attacks without thought.
Lots of other people complained about this and now they have no problem winning.

It's been stated they're already working on this, and it's very possible by the way, to beat this battle and avoid eruptions. All I can figure is that maybe your ISP is having a laggy night. It happens sometimes. Ifrit's a great deal about timing, I didn't think so before but after running as many runs as I have I can usually tell exactly when I HAVE gotten out of the way, or when I know I'm just screwed. There is one thing I have noticed however and so have people I've done Ifrit with. It seems he doesn't like to jump as often anymore in his phase after Hellfire. Often survivability can depend on Ifrit doing his dash attacks giving you chance to buff the party, throw on a stoneskin, or even raise someone that's fallen. Could just be a bought of bad luck, people are still beating him and still earning weapons. *shrug*Tonight is the worst lag for everyone in my ifrit group. This fight is barely tolerable in north america as is. Whatever is going on with the servers tonight it ruined the night. Strange behavior eruptions in the middle of the circle mid fight DC's. We lost 5 fights in a row and we dont lose this fight anymore. How defeated do you want us to feel when we cant even see the eruptions that are killing us?!?! absolute bullshit please work on this fight.

Since the last two patches, I've noticed something different and random about the fight. Sometimes he will do random eruptions that aren't even under anyone, they are just all over the battle field. I hope this is on purpose because it makes the battle different and not just "oh he has eruptions under him, I'm fine".
Since this happened around 8-10 my time... seems like we have the same experience. I get really bad random lag spikes when fighting him around that time. Like one time, he was swiping the tank and casting eruption at the same time >.< Pretty bad. He even landed from jump and he was invisible lol.
But when the lag is bad, you just have to be more careful. I'm a cnj, so I heal as much as I can and when his routine comes back around to do a special move, I run back a little in case he has "already started casting it" but my game didn't register is yet. I know that we shouldn't have to play like that but it's the only plausible way right now lol. Hold out till 2.0

its technically server latency in most cases, which is why EU gets hit the worst as it takes the longest for a round trip ping of the servers, however it is also possibly lag ontop of that to make it worst.
and anyone who thinks that latency is not there is stupid as SE have already openly admitted it is an issue. just check the ping results they got us to post a while back.

Annoying: Yes
Needs to be fixed: Yes
Unplayable: No
Oh and as for Eruptions happening in the middle of the field, sometimes they pop up in random locations that aren't on any specific person. (that's part of the fight)
Hate to say it, but I kinda agree. Ifrit with no lagg is kinda tank/spank.
He will be just "another" mob you can kill to get fancy weapons (if you are lucky enough)
