Glamour is basically character customization in the sense of outfits. There are people who spend a long time deciding on their characters to look the way they want when creating a character for the first time or going to the aesthetician. Glamour is basically an extension to this like how fashion in real life helps define a person based on what they wear in addition to their physical features to give a unique representation of a person to both themselves and to others. Sure, someone can get a haircut and do their eyebrows, but the amount of features on what a person looks like is limited. Glamour adds an extra layer of customization to this, both in real life and in game.

For an MMO - if being able to turn of glamour means someone can turn off what a player want to show, that affects their role playing aspect as they are no longer in control of how they truly want to be perceived as the way they customized their character. In the end, it boils down to existence of choice and representation. There would be reasons why people would spend hours on choosing how their character's physical features look in addition to the outfits they wear. There's also - to a certain extent - people who wish to glamour their gear to show their achievements and wear them with pride. The idea of being able to turn glamour off in an MMO setting simply derides that very intention of glamour in the first place.

From what I've seen from some replies on here other MMOs have a similar feature available and it doesn't seem to be a problem there. Why is it such a problem that a feature like this could be implemented here? Again this isn't removing people's choice or ability to create a character or dress them however they want. It's just allowing some people who don't care to see the more flamboyant glamours out there the opportunity to not have to. Everyone acts like if this feature were to be add that 99% of players would use it when in reality it would probably be closer to 10-15% if that. The need to have everyone see your glamour is just as selfish as someone who doesn't care to see it.

Acacia Tyrannis, congrats on the thread, it's one of the biggest threads I seen on here and it's still going.

I agree with your opinion but I remember when u started this you were an adorable little lala girl, now you're a beautiful cat woman, as pretty as you are I'd be lying if I didn't say I miss that little adorable lala u were, but I understand we all gotta Fantasia sometime, I been there before, I wasn't always this charming snazzy handsome little guy u see before u, I've drank my fair share of fantasias to.

I think I commented somewhere in this thread awhile back but none the less congrats my friend.

In my experience from playing another MMO in the past that has an option to limit player appearance, it's for performance reason, not because they hate flamboyant glamours.

If looking at other players offends you that much, maybe instead of demanding the ability to cover people up, maybe ask why it upsets you so greatly. I see some glamours that I just can't stand because I think they're boring or unoriginal, but then I just avert my gaze and wow! Problem solved. And it didn't cost me any money or any extra time for the dev team.

Different people have different tastes. I think it's perfectly fine for someone to make use of a hypothetical feature to hide glamour for such a reason.

My PvP glamour is just my character in a pair of shorts, a pair of sandals and the South Seas Talisman. If someone didn't want to see my character wearing skimpy glamour, then it wouldn't bother me at all since I don't feel the need to be the centre of attention on anyone else's screen but my own.

Personally I don't have a problem with any glamours in the game. If I see something that doesn't appeal to me I just roll my eyes and move on. I don't get offended by anything. That, however, doesn't mean I can't advocate for more options if it means others will have a better experience playing the game. I really don't see how something like this could detract dev time since it's something that can be worked on whenever. It's not like they have to dedicate their entire focus specifically on this feature.

Imagine having your whole day ruined because you saw someone's legs or something. What century is this. If the people you're advocating for get so upset by it, they need to sort that out.

And do you really think devs just spend their days sitting around doing nothing? They're constantly working on something, and adding a feature for the most sensitive of players isn't really at the top of their list.

Imagine having your whole day ruined because of the idea that someone doesn't care to see your meticulously planned outfit.

So it's perfectly ok for the devs to use their time for a small set of players and have to remesh some gear to fit all genders because how dare males not be able to wear bunnygirl outfits or wedding dresses? How is this any more unreasonable than that?

Oh wait, I was so focused on making a joke I didn't even read all of it. So your problem is about men wearing "women's" clothing. And so the truth comes out. Lol. Stop being so triggered by people who are different from you.

I don't see anything wrong with such preferences when it comes to aesthetics. Different people have different tastes and enjoy looking at things that they find to be interesting or alluring.

When it comes to FFXIV, I can't think of anything more bland than skimpy glamour. I can live with not having the option to disable it on my screen, though it'd be a nice feature to have for the same reason that the gender lock on a lot of in-game clothing was removed. More options are a good thing. The development team also have an excellent track record when it comes to adding features that allow players to tweak things on their screen to their liking.
