so, question. if someone is at home, not able to work, what excess income are they bringing in to spend on luxury expenses such as video game subscriptions? additionally, those sick and in the hospital probably didn't get the chance to bring their PC or PS4.
Why do you care about your virtual house if you don't have money to pay for the sub then anyway? Feel like it doesn't matter either way. In the end it is preventing people who want to and can actually play the game right now to access that kind of content. I can only see the benefit of suspensions shortterm like a month - 2months (and on top of that are still 45 days), if it stays longer you are only lowering the value for the actually active part of the playerbase.
Even with suspensions off people are gonna lose their house because they run into financial or medical trouble irl, and those still lost their houses too...You cant make it 100% right.
Anyway, I totally support changing the system, people are desperate enough to spam the housing placard for hours in the hopes it will be available the right moment. I can imagine it is a physically and mentally exhausting procedure to do so. They should limit the timeframe and indicate it, something like "This house will be able to be purchased between 7-9AM ST" It is so bad if it doesn't open up after 20hrs or something even if the average is lower. Also makes bots less effective.

I actually do agree that halting auto-demo, in general, is a stupid decision. It makes sense on paper, life isn't fair, these people may be loyal customers had the real world not screwed them, and why should SE pile on the suffering? But that kind of falls apart when you remember it's just a game. Anyone who can't manage to get online for the three months it takes for Auto-demo to kick in probably has bigger problems than their virtual doll-house going away. Meanwhile, it opens up people sitting on plots forever, either unintentionally, or purposefully, such as people buying with alts to flip them, locking out those of us who *can* pay.

I'm sorry, what?
Do you genuinely believe a global pandemic just.. Stops being a global pandemic because one country has a Law Enforcement issue? (I am aware it's not just one country, but it's all coverage of one country and ignoring the rest) Because if so, then by Zodiark, you need to remove your head from the dirt.
I'll re-hash things that have been said, purely because, well.. Everything's already been said at this point. Not everyone has the luxury of doing what they want. Not everyone has the ability to log-in, despite the lockdown. Be it due to illness, financial trouble or general outages in their local area. At this point in time, a notable majority of people worldwide are stressed up to the eyeballs with how to cope and survive through this. They don't need their virtual house's timer to add to that.
Put yourself in their shoes and see how thankful you'd be that SE is kind enough to relieve some stress during this time, rather than condemn their actions because you're unaffected.
So in the event that I be furloughed again, or worse still I no longer have a job because where I work shuts down (unlikely since I work in a grocery store, so we are essential, but stay with me for the sake of this hypothetical), and I can't find a job because the only industries that are still open have to operate in a reduced capacity to contain this modern day plague, and I have to choose between warding off starvation or playing with a toy, I should lose my house through no fault of my own?I actually do agree that halting auto-demo, in general, is a stupid decision. Ok, Karen.
Why are you so concerned about a house in a game if you're trying to deal with those other things? So in the event that I be furloughed again, or worse still I no longer have a job because where I work shuts down (unlikely since I work in a grocery store, so we are essential, but stay with me for the sake of this hypothetical), and I can't find a job because the only industries that are still open have to operate in a reduced capacity to contain this modern day plague, and I have to choose between warding off starvation or playing with a toy, I should lose my house through no fault of my own?

It's a game. It doesn't matter in the long run. Worry about getting your life back together instead of what you do or don't have in a game. If you're able to come back to the game later, then worry about housing then.
And yeah, I've already lost a house when I had to take an unplanned break from the game just before Stormblood was released. When I left, several dozen houses had still been available on my world. When I came back, there were none. So I got myself an apartment and waited. Shirogane opened up in 4.1 and...
I still couldn't get a house. Everything was immediately purchased, including the plots in the old wards that became available as the house flippers bought up everything they could get their hands on to resell at outrageous prices (the purchase timer didn't exist yet and multiple house ownership per account was still allowed).
It wasn't until the new wards were added in 4.2 that was I able to get a house again. I still had to wait 3 weeks after they were added because the new wards were only available to FC purchase and relocation. But when the personal moratorium was lifted, I was able to get the house I wanted. Thank goodness the new purchase rules had been added and few were aware of the FC loophole for owning multiple houses. Otherwise the multi-house owners and house flippers probably would have bought everything up already.
Did my life crash and burn during those 6 months because I didn't have a house? No. Did I suffer real life injury because I couldn't get a house? No. Did the game suddenly suck because I didn't have a house? No.
Was I angry another player now had my old house while I had to wait to get one? No. I was glad that they got the opportunity to buy it when it would have effectively been left unused while I wasn't playing.
People need to get their list of priorities straight. Owning a shiny in a game should never be on that list. You're far more of a Karen that that other poster.
I'm able to pay for my sub and keep my pantry stocked, so my priorities are plenty straight. I'm talking about other legitimate homeowners who should not be punished due to circumstances that are beyond their control that are affecting society as a whole. Why are you so concerned about a house in a game if you're trying to deal with those other things?

My advice remains the same as always: if you're having a hard time getting a house, look into getting an apartment. Otherwise, learn to do without.
The point is they don't have to be because SE is being 'good people.'
Yes, people can lose houses because of unforeseen circumstances at any time. The difference here is that multiple people are potentially having this occur because of the same reason. SE recognized this and decided to do something about it.
As for people getting their priorities straight... they are. If someone is losing a house over a real-life issue then they absolutely are getting their priorities straight. If SE decides to step up in some way to help them out then that does not make those people suddenly become selfish Karens even if they thank SE for doing it. Complaining about SE helping out those who found themselves in this situation since it makes getting houses harder, on the other hand, has the entitled Karen label stamped all over it.
