I would very much like to know for how long they plan to keep the auto-demolition off... it's not like Covid 19 will disappear in a couple days.
That's one heck of a big bedroom you have then. I can add all the different rooms I have in my real life condo (625 sq ft) to an in-game apartment and make the apartment feel almost as spacious.

I think furnishing scaling is more of a problem than the actual room size. Even a Roe sitting on a sofa is sitting more on the edge of the seat instead of filling it.

Considering the current state of things with COVID resurging in many areas, I would expect auto-demo to remain off until at least 5.35 if not 5.4. Even if they re-activated it, I don't think you'd have much luck on Ragnarok since that's the highest pop EU world and new content patches brings players who were taking a break back to the game so the demo timers on their houses would reset.

wait they turned it off when people are stuck at home lol well that's just a dumb thing to do if anything auto demo should be increased during these times because almost everyone is stuck at home so there is no excuse for not being able to get on lol

We're in the middle of a pandemic and people have no excuse to not log in? You're kidding, right?

I think the idea is that people who aren't able to pay their subscription due to being laid off or getting sick won't have their houses demolished. Nothing I can find about auto-demolition says anything about needing to maintain an active account, just that the owner of a privately owned house has to access it at least once every 45 days. This looks like it means that people's houses persist even if they let their subscription lapse and that ordinarily someone could potentially not pay for a month and still keep their house. The hold on auto-demoltion allows that to be indefinite until SE decides to turn it back on instead.

Yes, people are losing their jobs, getting sick and losing friends and family, but that's no excuse to not log in and play a video game.

Your virtual house really isn't that important.

People who have lost their jobs are not looking to spend $15 a month on a game, it seems like a very small number but it's the truth. Also take some countries who can only access games at places like Gaming Cafes, etc and you can at least understand why they would make this move.

A pandemic that has left a lot of people furloughed, if not jobless. No work means no money, no money means no way to pay for a sub, and no sub means no logging in. I had to take a month-long break a while back because my finances meant I had to forego my sub in order to eat.

Most of those stuck at home are stuck there because the places they work have been shut down. If they can't work, they don't have an income. They have to stretch what little money they have for basic necessities. That $15 sub fee, which was forgettable while they were working, now represents food for their family for a couple of days.

But those are the lucky ones. Imagine being stuck for weeks in an ICU because you ended up with COVID and couldn't breathe without the help of a respirator. Imagine being the family member of someone who is hospitalized, someone you're not even allowed to visit for fear of the virus spreading even more.

Do yourself a favor. Count your blessings that you're even able to continue to play the game right now. Others aren't so lucky.

Here's where things are going to get weird. I'm one of those that doesn't believe the demolition timer should be suspended in these situations. A house in a game shouldn't be anyone's major concern under any circumstances. It's just a game. What you earned once in a game and lose can be earned again later, even if that later doesn't happen as fast as you want. Real life is far more important. Crap happens in life and we need to learn to deal with loss and recovery, even if some of those lessons come from things that happen in a game.

But I definitely appreciate the compassion that the Square Enix team is demonstrating to those who are affected by suspending demolition. That's the great thing about the SE team - they understand we're all just people in the long run going through good times and bad. We're not just an open wallet to them, unlike so many other major game companies out there. Ultimately, I support their gesture of compassion.

In the meantime, welcome to your own real life lesson courtesy of FFXIV. Not everyone gets to own a house in real life. Some areas are sorely lacking a supply of houses for all the people who live there and so many are left with no choice but to live in an apartment if they're not willing to leave their friends and family behind to move some place that has houses available. Maybe they'll get lucky and a house will become available later but for now, they need to settle for an apartment and make it their home.

Now you get to go through the same thing in game. Maybe you'll learn from it. Maybe you won't. Some people are too dense to ever learn the lessons life tries to teach.
