FF14 PvP do need some fine tune-up but definitely will not be what OP has listed. Everything he said in general only showing he is relatively new to FF14 PvP. If the proper research was done, FF14 had everything you just listed; from progression ranking system to PvP gear. These mechanics have been gradually abandoned through the development of FF14 PvP. The community simply is too small and these mechanics became obstacles stopping its growth

Morale gear has literally killed the original Wolf Den and GC Ranking system as "PvP progression" is pointless after intial 3 years when everyone reach the max rank. Garo event introduced the last set of gear with stats you can obtained from PvP. This is a design choice as it is witness by many that how pointless it is because PvE players use it as an easy alternative way to gear fast without put into effort. FF14 is getting mob of bad players in PvE and unwanted number of afkers in PvP. It is not beneficial to both PvE and PvP of FF14.

Remove stats from gear is a positive design choice because it offers a real fair competition environment and door the the new comer to PvP without worrying to be face roll by geared players. People is no longer requires to grind in PvE content for best weapon to used in PvP because gear stat is now irreverent. In case you are not aware, weapon base damage is the primary damage modifier in FF14.

In regard to your other idea about classic 2 ways battles, I really hate to comment on it since it is mostly from those players who freshly off from other mmo; especially worst for those from WoW. Frontline 3 ways concept is fine as it is. It is currently the only system offer by MMO that able to reduce the possibility of one-side domination to the minimum.

if you prefers classic 2 ways combat and duel or die on whether you on a good or bad team, I highly recommend you to stay with WoW instead. Please do realize even though FF14 need some tune-up; turning it into a carbon copy of WoW PvP should not be one of them.

Pvp will never be what you want it to be in this game. If you do not enjoy it, there is no use screaming at SE as they're probably working on other important things that the player base are more inclined to do, such as the third crafting overhaul of the expansion.

If you do not enjoy it, play for top 100 rewards, if you don't like the rewards, you may as well find another mmo to pvp in.

Over four fifths of the playerbase will never pvp or has such a negative view of pvp and pvpers, they will never touch it to begin with. There is no incentive for square to do anything for it.

Ofcourse, there's no harm voicing your opinion but after so many years your throat will begin to hurt.

Eight man parties in 72s and 4 man parties in 24s. Get queues in odd hours and be able to play with more than 3 of my friends would be all I need. Maybe 4.0 PvP system back too.

been playing since 2.0 and PvP has always been badly executed and its fundamentally broken. this is why the community is small because it executes everything terribly. they've been abandoned because the developers don't want to fix it, they just delete it all together.

Other games have two sets of gear. One that works only in PvP and one that works only in PvE, this is used in so many MMO's. afkers are dealt with contingencies such as vote kicks, gaining points based on how well you play, kicked after no participation etc. these have also been used in other mmo's otherwise no other game's would work.

Haven't played wow since 2010 and my favorite PvP MMO's are SWTOR and Guild Wars 2. Two teams always works better. if it didn't, sports would use 1v1v1, its not a new concept.

My main point on my post is that other MMORPGs PvP actually have decent communities where you can queue even late at night and play pvp, progress through ranked and gearing up. I have played almost every MMO under the sun not just wow, and every single one has had a decent pvp experience in its own way but ff14 is by far the worst pvp experience. I only state this because I love most of the rest of the game and want its pvp community to thrive but somehow one of the most popular MMO's at the moment has a dead pvp community and that's because at the core pvp is broken.

I think something to take away from this discussion that IMO FL shouldn't really be changed on a fundamental level. It's an experience with enough of an audience that enjoys it to get <5 min queues at peak hours even when another PvP mode is drawing a lot of players due to an event. Of course, I think we can improve FL maps, make the teaching component and UI better, etc., though there's enough people who want this chaotic 72 player experience and I don't think we need drastic changes like altering all the maps to be 24v24 or something.

However, as said earlier in this thread, I think rather than completely gut FL for the audience that enjoys it, developer resources should answer the call for people wanting more conventional team vs team experiences. There's certainly a lot more proven and tested methods for how to make PvP awesome and I'd love to see them happen in FFXV separate from FL. Definitely needs proper support, too, like a daily challenge and way better efforts at teaching. For example, when they did Onsal Hakair some of the information is tucked away on the website, and even then it fails to convey key details, like the specific scoring from objectives. This is the kind of thing that should be on the loading screen, or with better tooltips, or better UI, or way better information displayed when you first zone in.

current pvp mode does remind me of how chaotic alterac valley was and I'm all for keeping these FL maps as one mode being like this. My main problem is all of pvp except feast feels like alterac valley.
