Yep, I've tried tried logging into her Windows account, and playing from there. No dice.

I've spent over 2 months troubleshooting this issue by myself, with no help from Square, so hoping if I keep posting, someone can help.

And THANK YOU so much for for providing suggestions. Seriously appreciate it. If you have any other suggestions, I'm open to anything. So frustrating not being able to play a game I've been playing for years with no issue, then after last patch, I've disconnected hundreds upon hundreds of times.

Hrm. Honestly, were it me? The next thing I'd try would be using a VPN to play. I'd recommend ExpressVPN—when I had a night where my ISP was basically cut off from the FFXIV servers for several hours due to a router somewhere between us choking on a digital hairball and causing frequent connection drops, that's what I used to still connect and play—but honestly, any VPN that's high-performance enough for gaming (which is a lot of them, these days) would be fine.

If you still get disconnected there, that narrows it down still further to SquareEnix's side, something within the server system itself. If you don't get disconnected... well, it doesn't really determine the root cause, but it would at least show that it's more likely tied to network route than to the account.

The other thing I might do would be talk to other people who are having the issue, since you mention there are others affected. If you all prove to be on the same ISP, or in the same geographic region, or on the same datacenter, or anything similar? That's still more useful data to have.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

Unfortunately the data provided by Wireshark does not proof that the server closed the TCP connection to your PC. A packet with a TCP FIN flag could have come from:

    a) the application running on the server, if it actually closed the connection (or crashed and the OS closed the connection)
    b) any network node on the route between your PC and the server’s location (including your router)
    c) software running amok (brain-dead “anti-virus software”, firewalls, ...)

AFAIK there’s no sure way to figure out the source of a FIN. You could take a look at the TTL (Time To Live) field in the IP header of the last few packets received from the server prior to the FIN and the FIN packet itself. If the FIN actually came from the server, the TTL values should be identical. If the TTL of the FIN packet is different, it probably did not come from the server.

You already tried a few things with your wife’s Windows user and PC. You still get the disconnects if you use her Windows user on your PC, but with her FF XIV character everything is fine? If you use her Windows user on her PC, you also get the disconnects? If the only difference between a stable and a bad connection is the character being used, I don’t see how this could be anything on your end...

Did you try creating a fresh character (just for testing purposes)? That could clarify whether it’s somehow related to your character or your Square Enix account.

OP already mentioned the endpoint for their account and their wife's differ; if the destination IP is based on what server holds the character data and the issue crops up on the wife's computer, it could still be that there's some misconfigured rule somewhere along the line that causes issues going to that IP and not the other one. Which would mean it would be account-specific but still not the SquareEnix servers directly.

Hence the VPN suggestion, since it'll presumably eliminate one more possibility. I'm not expecting it will, but... hey, more data is always good.
