As a new tank it makes me extremely uncomfortable for another player to take control of my character. On the other hand, it pushes me to be a better tank. So I'm split on the issue.
I main as heals and honestly I barely use rescue.

you can learn to be a better tank by asking for tips, making friends and the like. It is not ok for players to abuse you to make you improve.

Pulling someone into mobs or even trolling a player is far from abuse. Not sure what it is but people seems to lump minor inconveniences at best as abuse far too often. Sort of muddles the word "abuse" just my 2 cents.
I am actually using the correct connotation for abuse.
abuse:
1.use (something) to bad effect or for a bad purpose; misuse. (the definition i was using)
2.treat (a person or an animal) with cruelty or violence, especially regularly or repeatedly. (what you assume it only means)
noun
1. the improper use of something. (also possible use i could be using)
2.cruel and violent treatment of a person or animal.
so yes it is abuse to use the rescue still to pull people into mobs for trolling purpose, or to make them pull more.

Meh, as I said in another post for me it is far from abuse, but that is mostly for personal reasons since I grew up around abuse between my parents, but if you want to lump trolling as abuse by all means go for it. I personally do not consider trolling abuse. Just my personal take on it, just for me it seems silly to lump a minor inconvenience or trolling with abuse but hey if you do that is cool.I am actually using the correct connotation for abuse.

Personally I think some players are tad too thin-skinned or take things far too personally and get worked up over nothing. End of the day it is a minor inconvenience at worst. It is like what a 2 min cool down? It is certainly not something that can be spammed, as much as I wish it was.

And I constantly wonder where the line is drawn between being too thin skinned and being a decent human being. But then I'm not surprised that these attitudes are linked to upbringings.Meh, as I said in another post for me it is far from abuse, but that is mostly for personal reasons since I grew up around abuse between my parents, but if you want to lump trolling as abuse by all means go for it. Decent human being? Such a nebulous phrase. Within the context of FFXIV what does that even mean? For some it could mean not wasting the time if the three other party members. For others it is not forcing a certain play style on someone even for whatever reason. For others it may be extending a hand out and offer help.
Maybe I am just the odd one, but I am one of those it is a video game relax kind-of people. I try not to over complicate things by trying to inject or read into the actions of people.
End of the day it probably safe to assume that this has been blown largely out of proportion and the outcry is largely based around the general notion of misuse and intent to force one to do something they do not enjoy. Not so much that it is a major issue per-se. In the grand scheme the amount of people that propably use rescue in such a way is most likely less then the players currently happy with BLU.![]()

I get ya, and have a similar back ground but cant let personal experience cloud your definition of a word.Meh, as I said in another post for me it is far from abuse, but that is mostly for personal reasons since I grew up around abuse between my parents, but if you want to lump trolling as abuse by all means go for it. I get ya and in the strictest sense sure it is abuse in sense it is being used as not intended. Let us be real when most people use abuse in this context they do not mean it simply as a misuse of a skill.
The reality is we live in a world that is quick to tbrow around trigger words like abuse, harassment, toxic etc . . . they are buzz words and personally even if the definition fits in the strictest sense. In the grand scheme trolling someone using a skill to bother someone honestly should be fairly low on the spectrum of what is toxic, harrassment, abuse etc . . . but that is me.
I do not care enough about my fellow player to honestly care all that much if they think I am a toxic. harassing or abusing them in a video game. Sure on some deeper level it may annoy me players in this game are so thin skinned that little things like momentarily stripping them of control is enough to send them into a fit be it minor or major. I am of the mindset no one is solely innocent something must have triggered the reaction. Granted in some rare cases maybe it was nothing, but often times when someone ends up complaining about behavior done to them they are not solely innocent.
Peeps should learn from these little things like when someone pulls for them, or if someone calls them out for poor damage. Sure it is nice when advicd is given a friendly manner. Though even rude advice can still be constructive just depends on how you choose to receive it. One can play the victim card, or they can take the proactive approach and try to figure out what they could have done that would warrant such a reaction. Has little to do with the meaning of yhe word, and more so people hiding behind the meaning as a means of not having to accept some form of personal responsibility for their actions.
