Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Did SE officially ever state "lore" was a factor? I could have sworn they reason they went with the current setup was because this may be the last additional playable race, and they wanted to offer those who wanted to play a more beastly looking character an option.

I though lore was the headcanon used by people. If we do not get a male and female option for the existing new added playable character it will come down to a financial choice. May not like it, but that will be the sole factor that will dictate us getting them added. Logic, story elements, fan desire probably will have next to zero impact on the choice.

When Hrothgar were announced, Yoshida used lore as the reason that Viera men weren't added. However later he seemed to have backpedaled on this stating that he knew they wouldn't be able to add any further races to the game given the workload every newly introduced gearset adds the more models you have to set it to. So they decided to add the often requested Viera while also adding the Hrothgar to meet the requests of those wanting a more beastial race, and that resources simply weren't there to do two full races.

It's also worth noting that while they anticipated backlash for only making one sex for each of the races would not be well received, they didn't expect as much of a backlash regarding it as they got, especially from Western players, and Yoshida did give the impression that if they can get the resources to do so, they would consider making the additional sexes for both of the races to meet the requests of players in the West.

Except that goes into non canon. If you choose to RP as a Male viera, right now, it's not valid. There's no lore leading anyone to believe they've left. You're likely to be ignored in large by the RP community.



Until SE adds them, they're not leaving the forest. That's my point. In the lore presented, they haven't left. If SE changes that to include them, then that's fine and completely valid. Until then, they're not valid in RP by lore abiding players.

I think I remember the context now. Wasn't it you awhile back who was saying that people were trying to RP as "male" viera, and they were really forceful about it?

The whole argument based around lore has always been & ever will be weak.

Fantasia can alter our characters very genetic structure, not to mention how no one ever makes comment to the player character race. By and far character race should never be limited by the constraints of lore, simply because it hasn't been since the beginning.

Elezen were given no better treatment in Heavensward over any Aura, Highlanders didn't get anything from Stormblood (hell were were more or less forgotten in favor of Doma & Othard...). As many have said, Miqo'te already prove how little lore is valued in regards to the player characters race, being a carbon copy of the excuse used by both for their exclusion in the world proper. Citing lore now as justification for Male Viera exclusion is just lazy & just as shallow.

Neither is the player characters race or gender.

Hence my statement remains factual & unchanging.

Should you get your wish of a Garlean player race, the history of your character is still the same as any others. With no mention of your race or gender or change of said status. What you are now is what you have always been.

I speak to that outside influence our characters exist in. Race had no meaning, gender has no meaning, changing of these things has no meaning, playing as any race had no meaning, a Male Viera being playable should not be an issue either.

Using lore as shield to protect that stance is disingenuous at best, hypocritical at worst, unless you believe in never once using a fantasia in the past or future.

As for dev Q&A, it was explained as not mattering as i said above. The whole thing is magic. You were always who you are at the present.

someone twitter had a great idea. Give male viera the addition of antlers as well as ears. So they would be like Jackelopes.

I’d love it if they maybe had shorter ears with longer antlers too. Honestly I don’t care as long as male Viera are added but antlers would be awesome

I'm really torn because antlers would be awesome but feels like it'd be a nightmare and the design team would just throw the towel, male Viera would either never have headgear or just clip through everything.

...I'd be fine if their racial gear had optional antlers, though...

I’d prefer they did not have antlers, but that’s just my personal opinion. I’m still very excited to see male viera and I hope some hints come within the next few patches so we can see them in 6.0
