Way to help engagement in Main story

I am sure this has been suggested before I'm new here and wanted to put out my thoughts on a topic that I know greatly hampers my enjoyment of the main story quest.

I straight-up hate having a cut scene were the NPC's are talking and then switch to txt based chat in the middle of it. were most games now days are fully voice acted.

I am engaged while listening and watching the cut scenes but then when they go back to type I have a hard time not skipping through them and not reading them as completely as I should and lose track of what's going on

I'm not saying everything in-game should be voice acted as I know that's not viable at this point but at least the main story quest or at the VERY least the ones that start voiced should finish voiced

I agree, and think the half-voiced cutscenes are a little odd. However, if you pay attention you'll notice that a lot of the unvoiced portions are due to technical reasons. For example, it's a scene where the WoL might talk or an NPC that does not have a voice actor. Especially during half-voiced cutscenes you can almost always spot a reason as to why the particular scene was not voiced.

This is a bit annoying since I turn on auto advance text when the scene is voiced, then when it stops it continues to auto advance the text boxes and I inevitably miss reading one or two of them before turning it off. More voiced cutscenes would be great, but I also think that scenes without voice acting should be able to be toggled for auto advance separate of those that are.

MSQ can have last adjustments to story, changing the dialog. Voice actors aren't always available to re-record lines at the last minute.

Having a revolving door of voices for the same character is even more jarring than having some parts with voice acting and some without.

This is what I noticed in the MSQ. Voiced scenes are where the NPCs address you as the Warrior of Light (which is your title). However in scenes that are not voiced, that’s when they call you by your character’s name.

In SWTOR there are times when they just leave your name out of the voice over but have it in the text

VO: "It's nice to see you again."
Text: It's nice to see you again, Joe."

^This. It's a concession to giving a more personalized touch to character interactions, rather than having your character referred to simply by a default title for the entire game like Bioware titles do (to use an example). The WoL (your character) has no default name
(unless you count the WoL's First Shard counterpart Ardbert as their name on the Source as well)
so it's left up to the player to create a name and their whole identity and personality with only the vaguest of default backstory given. As Naraku said, scenes which have voice acting only ever refer to your character by boilerplate titles (the adventurer, the Champion of Eorzea, the Warrior of Light/Darkness) so this is the tradeoff to having full control over creating your character's name.

It really isn't just voicing lines where the character's name is mentioned that's the problem (they could always just replace your name with generic titles like Adventurer or Warrior of Light when being voiced as stated in above posts). I'm sure the developers would love to get as many scenes as possible to be voiced but the biggest problem, to my knowledge, is that voice acting is very expensive (especially in Japan). They also have to do this in [four?] different language for the global server (not sure about Chinese and Korean servers).

this would raise the cost of game development, and may slow down updates. MMOrpg are more expensive to make then your average game.

Voice acting is the biggest waste of money game companies do. Not to mention in any game where you could have choises, you can't, because voice actors are insanely expensive. Text based games are better in every way, no reason to listen to some voice acting crap which adds nothing.
I'm sure someone has an excuse for wanting voice actors but i would rather play my own character than what the developers want, especially when it's always the same old "chosen hero" garbage. How can anyone enjoy being made a vapid puppet to some prophecy, fate or destiny? I really don't get it.
