That's not really petty, that is exactly how you are supposed to do PotD. In and out as quickly as possible. No reason to go for chests or anything. Just go.

Unless it has changed significantly, people still need silver chests at least in order to get weapon and armor levels up if they're still new at it or have recently reset or are working toward weapon glam.

lol, how many other petty players like this are there? Ego much, perhaps? Like did he want a gold star for getting that armor from PvP, or? Perhaps this was just one of the first bad experiences I had running into someone that was a little...meh.

There's always been a divide in PotD between those who are spamming it for exp and those who are building up gear and need silver chests. Gold chests, like in your example are less important since they just give buffs for that run so most people don't bother anymore at the exp-spam levels of the dungeon. If you're really deep-diving they become more important at higher levels. That said, your interaction is a relatively mild example of this divide from what I can tell from back when I still did it. Your "Meh" is definitely a good description of it, so don't let it bother you. I've come across some very toxic people in PotD, much more so than other content. Something about those deep-dive dungeons either attracts the more toxic crowd or encourages it compared to other content. /shrug.

just got into "surreal" party last night

rom the start until finish aside from me, the others just... silent (no usual "hello" at the start of dungeon)

the whole run just silent (we got wiped once because tank suddenly DC but still no "sorry" or anything like that)

then when we kill the last boss the screen goes black for a seconds (loading) when my screen come back up, the others already gone, all 3 of them, only me left standing on the area.

wtf was that lol that just kinda creepy in a way

Your data center must be very extroverted. Most of my DF runs are like that, and that's perfectly fine by me.

Really now? For me it's about a 25% chance of having a completely silent run. At the bare minimum we get a "o/" and you can bet that on the more mundane runs there's some banter going around during downtime.

The majority of my runs are dead silent. That’s why I’m always so surprised when I come to the forums and people make such a big deal of being social in dungeons.

Most of my runs are silent. If I'm queueing with friends we're usually in voice so we're also guilty of not saying a word. We just zone in and do our thing while talking about all kind of things and I think it's the same for many premades. If I queue solo I usually greet the party but other than that I only speak up if something is seriously bothering me like a tank pulling huge but not using cooldowns or dps not bringing their tethered/ aggrod mobs into aoe range.
During my last two runs in Amaurot both dps stood way outside aoe range with their tethered mobs and single targeted them while the tank had a huge pack of mobs rearranging his teeth ...need shorter cooldown on rescue.
The really boring roulettes like alli raid or MSQ tend to be much more lively with all sorts of trash talk and bad puns going on in chat. Prae tends to be escpecially entertaining.

I'm usually the one that says "<Hello!> (^_^ )/ <Nice to meet you!>" when entering a duty. There's usually at least someone who replies with a "hi" or "o/". People don't have to talk in the duty if they don't want to, but every once a while i make a comment about makes i make or reply to a macro being used on me, trying to "lighten up the mood" or get some kind of interaction from the group.

It's usually those times where the most hilarious conversations come from. Especially, when people don't expect a silly response to their raise macro.

For example:

"GDI 'your name', YOU WERE ONE DAY FROM RETIREMENT"

Since that macro was used several times during a fight, i responded with: "By the Twelve! So many people were planning on retiring tomorrow... (O_O! )". After that, the chat was filled with a lot of laughter.

I mean, when given the opportunity, you should grab it with both hands and make the most out of it. (^_~ )

Other examples:

Ever used /blowkiss on someone who has turned into a frog (especially after getting hit by a frog trap in Palace of the Dead)?

But yeah, outside chatter during mandatory cutscenes, most runs are silent baring a start of run hello.

Probably the best thing you can do is not go for any chests unless they are on the way to the exit.
