No joke. Playing a healer has taught me to move my black (mage) ass when I’m playing it now. I’ve never been a “healers adjust” type of BLM, but now I’m super empathetic to healers. Even protective of them.
Truth. (And trust me, your healers almost certainly appreciate the consideration!)
I like to think that starting to tank has made me a better healer. And that starting to play Samurai and Monk has made me a better tank. I don't know if I'll ever be particularly great at those, but knowing at least the basics of another job's toolkit can help you play your role in a way that's less painful for them to deal with.
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer

I did trial roulette last night and Ramuh HM popped. One of the tanks commented that he was surprised it popped so quickly and that people actually queued for it. I didn't think much of the comment until after the fight was over and one of the DPS asked where the coffer was and someone (I think another DPS? Maybe a healer) replied, "<tank> THIS ISN'T EXTREME OR UNSYNCED." Gave me a chuckle.

One time I queued up for pvp (was Onsal Haikar or whatever) some guy was calling everyone some pretty foul stuff, eventually gets to calling people some less colorful terms regarding learning disabilities and I just happened to notice our team was losing so I just spoke up and said I feel like you're a fairly worthless person, and you offer nothing of worth here to anyone and I'm glad we're losing. Someone agreed, and the guy said nothing for the rest of the match.. silly me tho, we won at the end. XD Then they laughed. I did too tho.
It most likely made you a much better healer and tank.Truth. (And trust me, your healers almost certainly appreciate the consideration!)

After playing them yourself you know what they're capable of but also where their limitations are. And you can recognize at a glance what someone is doing and react better.
Playing healer (escpecially AST), DRG and DNC taught to make sure I'm always somewhere around mid range at most or even melee range as long as I'm not hindering the actual melees with it so ground heals, Divination, Dragonsight, dances etc. always hit me. I've also learned to not stand at max melee range on tank unless absolutely neccessary because depending on the size of the hitbox that often means I'm out of range for many aoe heals and buffs.
Playing melee taught me to keep mobs and bosses as still as possible and only turn them when absolutely neccessary instead of trying to always make them face north etc. so melees don't have to constantly adjust for positionals.
Playing tank taught me to better recognize defensives and know what kind of mitigation the tanks have and can use to take pressure of healers. It enables me to specifically ask for something and coordinate better.
And playing BLM taught me how to play every mechanic within a tiny circle.
I swear I spend half my time in Novice Network explaining at what level and where new players can get a mount... and the other half explaining why sprouts' Extreme trial queues haven't popped after an hour. And somehow, despite being directed to party finder, there's always some that are just like, "Nah, I think I'll just keep waiting".I did trial roulette last night and Ramuh HM popped. This didn't happen in DF, but in Palace of the Dead. I just want to vent.![]()
Please tell me if I'm missing something, or misunderstood this guy?
Essentially, I simply complimented someone's outfit/armor. At first, they said ty, and said I could also obtain said gear as a SAM.
I say "oh cool, but imma saving for that rebel coat :P" that it, nothing bad, right? Or am I mistaken here?
Either way, they say "lmfao you can't buy this with gil, it's from PVP"
Like, alright? Cool, cool, I don't mind that. I say nothing afterwards because there's no reason to.
Anyways, in PotD, me and another player go out of the way to obtain a gold chest...nothing inherently wrong, right? Nope, bad. He goes "?" followed with "what was the point in getting that chest, lol?"
I answer for the both of us, simply saying "stuff" because...I mean they help in PotD? I'm also new...mind you, at least to PotD.
He just goes "Well I'd like to get done ASAP and get my EXP."
Alright? Cool?
Well anyways, I remain silent because there is no reason to argue over something so menial...
Silence for the entirety of the remaining 9 floors. Once we get to the boss, he proceeds to just...go without explaining mechanics to new players. Which is fine, not like it's that hard.
After we kill the boss, it took him like literally not even a whole second and just leaves without a word.
lol, how many other petty players like this are there? Ego much, perhaps? Like did he want a gold star for getting that armor from PvP, or? Perhaps this was just one of the first bad experiences I had running into someone that was a little...meh.
That's not really petty, that is exactly how you are supposed to do PotD. In and out as quickly as possible. No reason to go for chests or anything. Just go.
Being new to PotD, should I solely focus on just silver chests?
He could've been nice about it *shrug*. I never understand how one could just consistently be snarky, but that's just me. There's ways one could be nicer to give someone new input on how to properly do things, or in a faster manner without having an attitude.
