oh what i actually meant by crystal to crystal was that you need to get into the aetherite stream at a crystal, there you could still choose your destination, then it would at least feel like a closed teleportation network with some sense behind it instead of "the whole continent is oozing aetherite i can hop in no matter where"

I see - initially having to begin the travel sequence at an aetherite, as opposed to hitting a teleport key and bringing up all destinations from anywhere; basically the system in place now, with that one stipulation. That's not a bad idea, giving one the sense of a physical network in place instead of materializing in and out of thin air.
