Funny how everyone forgets there has actually been two different FFXI special events previously run in FFXIV. The first one featured Shantotto and rewarded a wind-up Shantotto minion, with the second much later event featuring Iroha and rewarding Iroha's unique gear (ironically that gear has never been made available to players in FFXI!) which is the more familiar event.

Both events were run concurrent with an event in FFXI featuring Eorzean spriggans showing up in Vana'diel (FFXI players got spriggan costumes for gear as a reward), and were in celebration of different milestones in FFXI (the first one was to celebrate FFXI's eleventh anniversary of service, with the second celebrating FFXI's official winding up of it's main scenario with the Rhapsodies of Vana'diel story, hence why Iroha who was the main character of that scenario appeared in Eorzea/Hydaelyn.). FFXI will be celebrating it's 20th anniversary in 2022 so... maybe in a couple more years we may see another crossover FFXI event perhaps?

But we're still waiting for the hinted FFVII crossover event (which is especially prudent given just how many FFXIV references are in FFVII Remake) so it's possible we'll see a FFVII event before another FFXI one.

Sorry, the Shantotto event will be forever mixed up with A Shantotto Ascension Add-on in my brain.

Definitely want the regalia mount... I’m one of those that decided to do that on alt like chars and made a true main after the fact... but I had strong hope I would see it again but here we are.. is sad...

Yes. From what I can find there were 2 FF11 events.

Burgeoning Dread (what the wikis call it) in Jan of 2014 and again in Aug of the same year.
Maiden's Rhapsody in Nov of 2015 and Nov of 2017

Really glad to hear that honestly. I didn't complete it the last time and have been eyeing the Mog Station covetously ever since hoping the items would at least appear there some time. Good to know that I'll at least get a second crack at the event!

Which part of the Yokai event was fun and exciting exactly? I could not even bother with the 2nd mount.... It was a terrible event...

Wasn't it confirmed at some point that the Yokai Watch event is coming back, with new weapons for the classes added later? Could've sworn I read that somewhere.

The story was nice and the rewards are great. People would group up and do FATEs together and it was a good way to at least start leveling alt Classes/Jobs. I hope they extend it to higher level zones.

The nice thing is if you don't like it, you don't have to do it.

For the first hour but unless it's a Lamia thing I was hard pressed to find anyone out in Thanalan 5 days in.

"Dont like dont X" is not a solid defense for trash content. I wouldn't like rocks in my cereal but if someone told me "Dont like it then dont eat it" it doesn't excuse the fact that there are rocks not fit for human consumption in my cereal.
