It is moments like this I realize how much of a wuss I truly am. A spark flies at me and I immediately go "STRANGER DANGER! STOP DROP AND ROLL!"

Blacksmiths protected their clothing from sparks by wearing leather aprons that look similar to the ones worn by modern blacksmiths. The apron also served another purpose, as no amount of body sweat will protect you from a metal splash.

Fantasy art may sometimes depict a blacksmith as shirtless, a sleeveless tunic under the leather apron was more likely.

You encounter Brithael with a sleeveless tunic that is designed with a Fantasy flair.

And my favorite armor is the Coliseum gear set ... and my crafters glamour using the South Seas Talisman.

Shirtless is great, just don't want folks out there thinking that "body sweat" is the only protection an IRL blacksmith uses.

I did research into blacksmiths for a writing project long ago and they did indeed go shirtless, but for the express purpose of protecting against sparks. They indeed wear protection during the smelting process.
