I would love, LOVE, LOVE to see Time Mages added. I could see it as A healer spec or DPS. Healer would be "reversing" dmg done and such.
However, I much rather see it as a DPS. DPS Time Mage could possibly involve building up resource X in order to enter a "Haste" phase were they can have an insane cast speed and short GCD to unload a bunch of spells. An playstyle that would be cool and unique would be to have it centered around DoTs.
So for example (adding possible spell names to make it more thematic) you'd have your DoTs Old, Corrosion, Curse, and Warp. Quick/Quicken you'd have on say a 30s cd that deals the damage based on the remaining uptime of all the Time Mage's DoTs. Haste could be on a 55 or 60 second CD that could increase how often the dot's tick for 10 ish seconds (so like instead of every 3seconds it'd be every 1.5. seconds). Stop would be a 2min CD that makes it so all the DoTs' timers stop moving but the ticking damage still occurs. So major focuses would be having DoTs up to line up with your Stop and haste and then maximize with Quicken. One of the 4 dots could also be on a cd as well to add a little more interaction. Another possible buff could be Extend which would add 10 seconds to all your active DoTs. Demi (since AST has gravity) and Comet (as well as various 1-4 versions of them) could be the filler and aoe.
This is just off the top of my head so it's obviously very rough and barebones but with the polishing and balancing I could totally see something along these lines fitting well into the current playstyle. REALLY want to see Time Mages added, preferably as DPS.
My second pick would be beastmaster. They'd need to be careful to not make it seem too much like summoner. They could possible have a set of 3 pets and have 2 active at a time and then would buff/focus on one of the two but after that buff period ended they'd have to rotate it out and bring in the in active pet. Each pet would alter the available skills for the Beastmaster. I think it'd also be a good job to cover some of the fantasy of some of the "archer" type jobs while keeping it unique from bard and machinist. If it doesn't get added as a regular job I think it'd make a great candidate for a Limited Job like BLU.
Viking as a melee DPS that uses a giant weapon (like what tanks use) as a contrast to the the more "agile" type jobs that we have with all the other melee DPS. I think a gaint hammer would be awesome since giant axe and sword are taken already.
A lot of the jobs such as sniper, ranger, hunter, cannoneer, gunner, Green Mage, and Sage would be hard to put in and make feel unique. A lot of what makes them "special" is covered in already existing Jobs.
Some jobs I think have a really unique theme but would be hard to implement mechanically in the gameplay style that FFXIV has. Arithmetician and Illusionist would be more difficult to include and still have their "Theme" found in their previous FF games
Already posted a little earlier, but seeing where we are going in the story, (Bozja/Dalmasca) it can be safely assumed that the future jobs will maybe be Arabic or middle Asian in nature...so just based in prior games like FF5, the general ascetic of Mystic Knight seems a strong contender thematically.
Otherwise, I would probably guess Geomancer since some groundwork has been done (at the very least it was considered during Stormblood).
Either way, I think whatever is added will fill in “empty spaces”, for example using a NIN or DRG gear...or alternatively be the 4th healer, 4th physical Ranged dps and/or 4th proper magic DPS.
I think its both the potions...and the name... Chemist and healer to me, but they said something like chemist is too much like alchemist, so they don't want to. I don't get it. Just because of potions? can just have the class mix potions around kinda like AST cards for a new brew for different effects. Give them some sorta unique weapon.
Definitely would like to see sword saint. The closest thing we have to it is Paladin but that's a tank. Sword saint would be more of a DPS. Would be nice to see a Knightly DPS class using sword magic abilities.
I think I remember some sort of rumor or mention on naming Chemist as “Grenadier”, which would solve the naming issue and provide some killer dynamics for a healer.
Also anyone else amazed by the accuracy of these polls? I think I’ve been watching them since HW.
Every time I see someone suggest Time Mage as a healer class that reverses damage done to allies I cry a little inside as an Astrologian. we ARE time mages.
It does, If they are removed so they could fit in time mage I would be so mad. Even without those Astrologian still has Gravity and healing spells whose flavor is reversing the damage as if it never happened if I recall the class quest right.
