Honestly, if people fall for that, since the address that it is linking to is supposedly the forums(at least the one tell my friend showed me was), then I really don;t know what to say. It's obvious that it's fake since it has forum.square-enix.com-XX.xxx(replace the x with random letters). People do need to pay more attention, and realize that not everything goes perfectly as planned. Pretty sure nobody decided to have a pandemic right now(at least I would hope they didn't....) and life happens, and mother nature tends to throw a tantrum about how she is being treated every now and then.

I've mentioned kitboga to people on many occasions but consider checking out his youtube channel and scam bait videos. Then think about how many tens of thousands of older people who fall for those scams.

Why does YouTube demonatize videos for saying corona virus, I've heard alot of content creators skirt around calling these covid 19 times everything they can to not get demonatized, I understand the content creators doing that cause YouTube is how some of em make their living but YouTube punishing people cause someone flat out said the words corona virus is just stupid, makes no sense.

Plus I hope this isn't some new trend were u can't call it like it is cause I don't see how that works in a fight against something if you can't even call it by it's name.

That's my rant lol, the whole "sensitive time" part of your post made me think about this and as far as your friend goes their probably getting trolled would be my guess for the nature of that tell, or someone is horrible at advertising.

Because it's to prevent mis-information. Youtubers are not a great source of information. Something as simple as dumb joke becomes fact spread across social media within minutes. Best to just prevent that from happening in the first place.

We already see an insane amount of information, and people reacting to this in the most outrageous ways (Racism towards Asians, drinking bleach, etc). Last thing we need is people taking the words of Pewdeepie as fact.

Very much this. Just because we use the forums and, presumably, keep up to date on FF14 news (and maybe other gaming news as well) doesn't mean that everyone does. There are a ton of players that just log into the game, do their thing, log out and not think about the game until they log in again. They might be uninformed but it's pretty harsh to say more than that. Heck, even if they follow the game religiously it doesn't mean they're tech savvy enough even to just be careful of blind links and that sort of thing.

If some people do not check where they type their game account info, imagine how unsafe their credit card or online bank details are. This scam is a wake up call.

Got a similar tell a few weeks ago, but with the opposite intent, asking me to sign a petition demanding the patch be released on schedule.
