Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
Hm, avoiding double-jumps and cliffs - from my point of view - should be good enough for flight-refuseniks who still want to travel per mount.
BUT!
As someone who doesn't even possess a bike in RL (plus has a few alts that can't use a Chocobo yet), let me introduce you to something you all seemingly don't even consider:
Your own feet.
As our characters can't fly by themselves, there is already a valid non-flying-option in the game---one that will make you fall like a stone when you hopp over a cliff. It's called walking / jogging.
-> Furthermore, you can tune that. Switch to BRD / MCH / DNC and activate Peloton for more tempo. (Dashing in combination with Peloton even makes you faster than Lv1speed of mounts.)
I imagine some say now: "But that's still not fast enough for me!"
->Please don't forget, that everybody deciding against flying is automatically slower than those who fly. So if you don't need to be pretty fast to grab a Hunt and aren't rushing stuff because of clock / RL-stuff, it won't hurt you to enjoy the landscape a bit more than usual.
(Also, if you just need to go from one settlement to another, you can still rent a Chocobo-taxi in ARR-areas, since I'm pretty sure these things won't learn to fly when the next Patch happens.)
If the developers catered to every little demand on this forum there would be no time for new content.
I'm currently leveling an alt, this is exactly the truth of it. There's a big difference between running around a valley/lake and flying over it, having the flying: off option would bring you back to the times were you didn't have flying, it would make it more natural, it would also allow you to run near the water without having to worry that you'll be put in flight mode the moment you slightly touch the edge of the water. While it's a pretty minor issue imo, I'd prefer having a toggle that disables flying. It's not quite the same to go on ground while knowing you can fly at any time by pressing double spacebar, makes it feel like you're needlessly handicapping yourself while if we actually had ground only mounts or a toggle that disabled flying, you'd be less tempted to skip parts and feel more immersed in the ground travel.
Another option is to .... not use a mount at all.
Then there will be no chance of flying when you don't want to, and you will move at a slow enough speed that you will actually be able to take in all the sights.
I'm of the opinion it's mostly unnecessary as well, but.. there are circumstances if one wished to ALWAYS be on the ground the game would just start you flying, like say if you jump off a very high cliff or start heading up an incline, as was pointed out.
I just don't see why you'd want to pretend you're groundbound.
So again. There's no particular detriment to adding it other than use of dev time, which isn't really ours to make the call on.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
Or you could just land and thank your mount for it's attentiveness and get back to what you where doing? BOOM! Problem solved, immersion maintained. Thread can be locked now?
Yes but to me it wouldn't feel as much when you know that there will be no flying at double jump or off a cliff. That's the point of what I said there and the whole reason why I'd appreciate a toggle, so the fact that I'm needlessly handicapping myself wouldn't be as apparent.
Yes indeed. It's subjective so I don't expect you to understand it. I miss having mounts that couldn't fly for this reason but at same time appreciate that all mounts can fly now. A toggle could perhaps give the best of 2 worlds. It may be as illogical as it can be but the fact is that I feel a difference in immersion when I know the mount won't drop from a cliff or won't fly at double jump, the trigger for flying is too easy, that's the problem. If flying was activated by any other button (just not the jump button) and you wouldn't auto fly over cliffs I'd be more satisfied personally.
But as I've said from the beginning, it's kind of a minor issue and I'd still mostly fly even if this toggle became available, but when I do ground travel (as I do sometimes) I'd enjoy it more and do it more often, that's it.
