This is like one person choosing what another person wears. There is no real word magical way of changing what your clothing looks like and any preferences or objections to particular clothing is based on what is seen. For all intents and purposes, glamour is the clothing your character is wearing.

Some people are extremely embarrassed by certain clothing and don't want their character seen in it. Glamour lets them hide this. Forcing them back into those clothes after they have chosen not to show them is a violation of sorts, at least within the context of the game.

If this feature is implemented you may find people protesting by walking around or queueing up with the actual things they want to be seen in, whether it is optimal gear or not.

Partially related to the thread itself, I'd also like the option to hide some of the sillier glamour options for houses. I won't hold my breath in regards to it happening, though after spending a lot of time working on my garden it's a real shame that there's a lovely view of the beach on one side and a giant chocobo house on the other.

The game launched with a particular set of aesthetics. A portion of the community were very vocal and sought to loosen those restrictions, affecting the game's aesthetics to this very day. Many of those players claimed that they were in support of 'more options' when arguing for the restrictions to be loosened.

Yet now we have players denying others the opportunity to have an optional toggle that is entirely client side. Others are also pointing fingers and equating different tastes in aesthetics as 'bigotry' and even bragging about wearing specific gear to annoy other players - which makes me suspect that for a portion of those demanding 'more options'...it was never actually about providing more options and instead about some sort of strange desire to stand out and be seen no matter what.

First of all "CONTEXT". Like I said it is the in game equivalent of changing another person’s clothes. GMs already take steps against in game harassment. Devs have avoided allowing other criminal and immoral activities to be performed by player characters on player characters in-game. If the devs have reservations about allowing such things, they should have reservations about this.

The argument for this feature is based on emotions and philosophical beliefs on what other people should wear in game. For many players their characters are an intellectual and psychological extension of themselves. Just because you and I don't feel that way, doesn't mean it's not a real thing. This is something acknowledged by the devs of many mmos, and why many have started banning players for more and more things.

If you can say "it doesn't matter to a player how I see their character" then they can say “it doesn’t matter to you how you see my character”. This make the whole thing a draw except for the fact that this feature involves one player imposing on another player’s character’s identity. You say it’s just your screen, but if it’s a feature in the game it’s a lot of screens. It may encourage some to create media and post them online.

I'm still against this idea, but keep saying the best hypothetical solution is just to be able to blacklist specific items, because we all know what very specific ~6 sets we're speaking about here.

Seriously though, how often do you even see those types of glamour to the point you'd want to complain about it? I very rarely ever see them outside main hubs - Limsa and the Saucer more often than not.

I'm sad this thread exists let alone has so many staunch supporters. Having a world full of different, sometimes goofy characters makes it more fun. I'm also surprised no mods exist making all characters wear bland potato sack slops to please this particular demographic.

Best solution right here a option to hide glamours is too easily bypassed. I personally don't care what someone is wearing long as it does not effect their performance. But even this has a loop hole that cant truly be fixed this is really a problem with a domino effect.

The proposal isn't stopping those characters from existing, though. It's simply something that would allow players to choose whether they wish to partake of it or not. It'd be entirely client side.

Not everybody is a fan of 'goofy' characters, either. Some people enjoy the likes of Hildibrand, others - such as myself - absolutely despise him.

Hello?! Police?! Someone just walked past me in neon-green tights, it's tacky and I want them to stop!

*Yawn* You're starting to sound like a broken record at this point. Got anything new to offer in support of this instead of the usual?

Things can change over time for better or for worse, like the word "woke" for example, and this game's aesthetic, along with many other games's aesthetics for that matter, is one of them.

And spaghetti code this, spaghetti code that. They can't even have a way to allow you to accept party invites while preoccupied with anything or even start leves while mounted. Let alone how the glamour dresser still feels like it's in alpha and is inferior to WoW's transmog and GW2's transmog. What makes anyone think they could even feasibly create this option with how atrocious the game's engine is? Would you really want them to spend time making this, and making it also work so that it doesn't break other parts of the game, instead of fixing all the other glaring issues the game currently has? Would you really want them to cut even more playable content for this? Lord knows this game, Shadowbringers in general, is in dire need of content that last longer than 7 days. And the devs love cutting corners, a remix of Insatiable for all trash bosses instead of making a new song is an example, the unfinished Viera and Hrothgar race is another, and the many upon many reused assets this expansion has used, so they absolutely would not be above cutting funds to one department to fund this.
