FFXIII was ok, not great but not awful. I usually play every FF game so I'll get it some point, but I think I'll wait a while on this one before I buy it...
FF Versus XIII Yes, please... I'll play that in a heartbeat. When they first announced FFXIII and Versus (at roughly the same time, when Type 0 was still being called Agito) I was actually more interested in Versus than I was in XIII.... and I am still waiting. /sigh

Not me, its my least anticipated game this year.
I'm looking forward for Versus XIII and Type-0 more.

People really think something touched by Tetsuya Nomura will "save" Final Fantasy?
Oh my;
I find it funny people think Versus XIII will be largely dfferent from FFXIII, especially from what we know of it so far. (It's still very much related, just a different battle system.)
Also Type-0 is very much related as well.

Looking forward to this game =)
Yes my inner fan-boy is showing. Do I care? not one bit.
Was XIII perfect? nope.
Did it re-invent itself like most FF games do, yes.
I play each new game with an open mind, expecting cross-over elements with new game-play in each entry.
That's exactly what I got in XIII.
Story was way better on my second playthrough.

Only myself and another poster mentioned FF Versus XII and neither of us said what you state above. I said I found it more interesting from way back when they announced Versus and XIII before either was released. The other said he was looking forward to it more. I don't know where you got the above information of people thinking it will be largely different, but it wasn't from this thread or either of us.
Now they are bringing back something and doing new things that weren't in FFXIII (a few that I believe they are also bringing back in FFXIII-2). So in my mind it will be different from FFXIII, but as for better? That will be found out when it is actually released and we are able to play it.
They are bringing back or implementing:
The open world maps that FFXIII didn't have, but I think they are bringing this back in XIII-2 because of the complaints from people about it from XIII. They said that you can basically go anywhere except though the mountains.
They are bringing in a new type of CS called Real Time Event's where you are still in control of your character while the CS plays. Unlike FFXIII they will be triggered randomly without any warning and you can find yourself in a battle or R.T.E you weren't even looking for.
They are also bringing in a Day/Night cycle so the game shifts throughout the 24 hour period while you're playing.
You can take pictures in game any time you want.
They also want to bring back the traversable world map which was taken out after FFX.
Doesn't matter who is making it, or if it will 'save' the FF franchise, or any other comment's people are assuming are the reasons. It looks interesting, it has for years and I would like to play it. Simple as that, as stated I play every FF game, so why would I be any different with Versus?
Also... of course they are related in some way. It IS, after all, the Fabula Nova Crystallis Series.

It's the general consensus that Versus XIII will be largely different from FFXIII and therefore "a better game", even though every FFXIII game in the Fabula project are all related to each other in some way. It's why I found it funny there's so much hate for FFXIII yet there's so much love for Versus XIII/Type-O.
Sad thing is, there's even hate for what XIII-2 "brought back", but still was well received, just means people are being really fickle about certain aspects they deem to what makes a game 'good' since for example you mention the overworld, XIII-2 brought back open exploration, which a lot of people hated because it's "too open ended" lol.

Well one, if that is in fact the general consensus, I wouldn't know. I don't tend to listen to the general consensus, I try the game for myself. It's the general consensus that Versus XIII will be largely different from FFXIII and therefore "a better game", even though every FFXIII game in the Fabula project are all related to each other in some way. Two...yes they are all related to one another in some way, maybe not story wise but in some way. They come from the same series.
Three, if you have tried Peanut Butter you know you love or hate it. People have tried FFXIII so they know if they love or hate it. Versus and Type 0 (at least US wise) people have no experience with. It's like seeing a new toy or restaurant and thinking, how that looks fun or good. We don't have any experience with it, so we can only go by what we see and make a decision based off of that. Once the game comes out and people have experience with it, we will see the true results of how people feel. This happened with FFXIII, and FFXII etc... and will always happen with every new FF game (and every new game period) that comes out. People always have higher hopes for the sequels, or new games in a series that they love. It's simply human nature.
