But they added male Viera with the Easter updateGive us male Viera and then I'll start paying my sub again. This hurt and it hurt bad. This is a ragequit moment for me. Goodbye until they add male Viera. This is homophobic. Still afraid of adding male bunnies huh? Stop the pathetic excuses and start listening to the people who play this game.
Thongs? Where are you finding these straws?I'm am agree with the point that race shouldn't be done for the sake of filling a niche, hovewer: skirts and thongs have nothing to do with LGBT. Clothes are clothes. Piece of cloth, nothing more. Go to Scotland and try to imply that every guy in a kilt (which, no matter how you look at this, is a skirt) is gay. Trying to break some outdated stereotypes by adding non-gendered clothes isn't catering to LGBT. It's simply that: trying to break outdated stereotypes so people will have more freedom in expressing themselves without being accused in being somehow "wrong".

No, you were trying to refute the previous poster's claim something about clothing and "LGBT+". Thongs aren't "normal" clothing, at least not in the world I consider normal. Whether you are "LGBT+" or not having your butt cheeks out is weird.

Uhmm. I thought that the consideration of circumstances to decide if you can wear something here and now (as an example - wearing skirt or pants at the office is okay, wearing bikini is not as it's not the place for it) should've been obvious.
If anything, I'm not even sure that "thongs" in Amnmaat's message was used in direct meaning, as there is no such clothing in FF14 really (except maybe Highlanders' female Hempen Camise set and probably Thavnairian Tights that are still female only). I wouldn't even be surprised if it's a typo and it was supposed to be "things" - O and I are next to each other on keyboard. I just quoted it the way it was said as it didn't have any special weight for my point, and still doesn't.

I would argue "thongs" would be "normal" for beachwear, of which we have plenty in game. Although I'm struggling to remember if males actually do have access to them. I know a bikini on a female character turns into shorts for a male one, or the tiny bootyshorts that turn into broadshorts for a guy. I vaaaaaguely remember... is there a coeurl-print one for guys?
Which is both besides Halivel's point and the point of the thread...
I think that in Hydaelyn clothes are just clothes, just like in Earth. The meanings clothes have on Earth seeps to Hydaelyn, because we people behind people of Hydaelyn are people fro Earth, but Hydaelyn itself has never had Earth's conventions about clothing to begin with. Everyone has seen characters running around Coerthas in swimsuit and be tanks practically naked. On average, I think we all can agree that would not fly on Earth. But on Hydaelyn it's fine to go on adventuring in harsh and/or dangerous environments dressed in piggy mascot suit, or whatever.
Tho, what is this LGBT/GSRM blaming? Saying it's those people who want to ruin our chaste Eorzean experience sounds eerily similar to that complain which pops up from time to time connection with male vieras too; "homos (or, as this is internet, fujoshi) just want bunny men to be too pretty and sissy and i won't stand that because it's gay >: (((".
...
When, like clothing around the world, what is streotypically homosexual varies. And, like, most of us are grown ass adults here. Tho, even kids know better than to just judge each other by mmo character's appearance.
And, like, I do hope people are not too upset about thongs around Hydaelyn. Those give me hope about getting fundoshi bottom glam at some point![]()

To be fair, the game itself launched with gender locked gear as a deliberate design choice. I don't think it's unreasonable for people to raise eyebrows when such an approach is changed only after a lot of complaining on social media by a vocal but small portion of players. As a gay guy, I'm also pretty weary of seeing feminine aesthetics pushed so heavily. I don't want male viera to be broadly dictated by such aesthetics.
Gameplay/story segregation is a thing, so I doubt it's that. All the same, some people don't enjoy being surrounded by goofy looking clowns when playing.I think that in Hydaelyn clothes are just clothes, just like in Earth. Age is just a number is a bit of a meme, but when you say "adults" in this context it does come to mind...When, like clothing around the world, what is streotypically homosexual varies.
