I think I am at the point where I am ready for a new cast to take over.. I just want a few characters to be added and I want them to be involved more in the current stories or the stories to come. Hien is new and shiny to me still, so he can stay. But like the twins? Urianger? Yawn, overplayed, overused. Tired.

I would like for the twins to grow up already. The time dilation has stretched too thin for my tastes. Also I miss that skill on AST. As for side characters getting more love, I would like for Rowena's real stake in the world to come out and for Gerolt to really up the ante. And I'd for sure love for Hien to keep popping up. I would also very much appreciate Heustienne teaming up with Estinien in the future.

And uhh the city state leaders. I'd like them to do more than sit in their towns and twiddle their thumbs. It'd be nice if Merlwyb contracted the Ironworks or something to outfit her ships with magitek. It'd be nice if Gridana lady and the conjurer's guild started lending out their healing services to the front lines. It'd be nice to see how Lolorito and the Sultana are getting along as well, even though i hate the Sultana.

Would also want to see more of Unukalhai.
Unukalhai should most definitely get some screen time. I would honestly be very surprised if Unukalhai is forgotten in Shadowbringers since he is a disciple of Elidibus. I actually don't consider him to be a "minor" Scion because I expect him to become a "major" one very soon. I would be very surprised if the writers bury him and forget his existence.

The only question is how the writers would reintroduce him in the main scenario quests for players who never completed the Warring Triad story.

I don't really understand this logic. It's a continuous story with an established supporting cast. You don't just drop them all and pick up a new set of characters to replace them.

Giving more characters some time in the spotlight is one thing, or even introducing new major allies for each expansion, but they're not going to abandon the core cast.

Did you miss the bit where they all joined the Eorzean Alliance and fought alongside us on the battlefield at the Ghimlyt Dark? "Gridania lady" saved us from being blasted by a colossus and everything. (And if her Tale From the Calamity is anything to go by, she certainly would have been healing people on the battlefield during and afterwards - it's just not a particularly exciting thing to show within the game.)

Nanamo last showed up in the Saltery sidequests and Lolorito is involved in that at a background level too, wherever they take it from here.

Well, now that they've set a precedent for making previously-optional content required for MSQ...

But, really he should have been brought back into play ages ago. Or give him something to do in a subsequent sidequest OR at very least have him off doing some kind of important task so there's a reason for him to be not involved in the MSQ, rather than sitting around the solar all day but not getting involved in the quest unfolding in the main hall.

No, and I didn't miss the part where they fought at Ala Mhigo either. I want more of that though, and particularly I want them to have more dialogue. I loved the sit down with Varis at the end of Stormblood. There should be more, though. Even within these great examples the city-state leaders feel more tacked on than expanded upon. I'd like some more Aymeric and Lucia too. Especially Lucia.

Sure. Depending on how they do it. In fact with the major Scions stuck on The First the current expansion would have been a great time for this.

Thanks for helping make the FFXIV community a fun and welcoming place. If you're not sure you have (and you very likely have), make it a point to be patient or helpful the next time you log in so that you can know you've made a difference.

If you're on the Aether data center, congratulations! I might be your next exciting adventure healer in the Duty Finder. Please look forward to it.

I really can't agree. I love that the core cast has stayed largely consistent over the course of the game bar one or two roster changes each expansion. It makes them actually feel like my party members and friends, and I'd hate if they were just gone for the sake of being gone.

I'm all for seeing people like Hoary Boulder or Unukalhai (especially him) get more to do, but not at the cost of killing off the core group.

I wholeheartedly agree with you here. I know I started the thread with the topic of promoting the less significant Scions but it definitely shouldn't be at the cost of abandoning the main cast. One does not simply overhaul the main cast and expect a coherent and consistent story. Even though Arenvald wasn't promoted as part of the main cast, it was definitely a breath of fresh air to get to know another member of the scion that isn't the ones we often work with.

Though the primary members of the Scions often play a major role in every expansion, not everyone always play the "main roles" the way Alphinaud and Estinien were in Heavensward or the way Lyse and Hien were in Stormblood but the cast changes are actually very consistent and natural as opposed to everyone suddenly being dropped. I actually like how Alphinaud took the backseat in Stormblood to let Alisaie shine but it's not like he was completely axed since he still played some role in that expansion and maintained relevance throughout the course of the story. Natural transitions like these are fine in my opinion if it's to help other characters grow.

What I look for in the development of these minor Scions are actually more for the enhancement of worldbuilding rather than forcing them to suddenly become a part of the main cast.
