The divice between 'beast man' and 'spoken' has always been kind of arbitrary and I think they're more and more trying to show that to be the case, including here with the dwarves.

I think it was said that Garleans were the ones that coined the term 'beast tribe' and that it was very arbitrary, much like our own 'first world', 'second world', 'third world'. And much like anyone making hierarchal designations, of course the people making them often put themselves on the top.

To be fair, I don't recall any of the other main races being referred to as beasts. There could have their own tribes, sure, but beast tribes have generally referred to the various mob-types scattered throughout the game.

I personally don't care and find it a bit amusing, but I can see why people may think it's odd that a Lalafell is now being tossed into this group.

Oh, I wasnt refering to the other "main races" (I assume you're thinking of the other playable races here?), but to beings like the Slyph, cobolds, sahagin, amal'jaa, Vanu Vanu, moogles... all creatures that are obviously quite intelligent, cable to speak our language and yet... are labled "beast men".
That the dwarves on the first are considered to be one of them just goes to show that its very arbitrary what might be considered a beast tribe - and that we, as players, can think about wether or not its "good" (or ethical? maybe thats a better word) to go around and toss other beings into a category like "beast tribe". I dont expect the game itself outright asking that question, but we could - and not just in the matter of "Lalafell are a beast tribe now?!" but more "...why is putting other races into the category beast tribe still a thing?"
