At least, in North America and Western Europe, “the Black” indicates someone Evil.
Black Edward, Nicholas the Black - it doesn’t mean you’re dark-skinned, it means you’re a Villain.
Black-hearted, Black-souled, dirty Blackguard...
And here, in FFXIV, we are all Heroes.
So. We can be Edgy, we can be Dark, but, we can’t be Black.
Wouldn't that be even worse with "The White" - especially since you can go full hit on that angle and even put on white robes and a white pointy hat and well... let's just talk about race issues at that point... because that'd be about as bad as someone could take it.
Looks at my own character...
Ok, well... I wouldn't call hot-pink edgy.

Striving for perfection is the path to one's downfall. 'Tis the paradox of the immaculate carrot. | Jah Bless. One God, One Aim, and One Destiny - Marcus Garvey.
Until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned, everywhere is war - Ras Tafari.
In today's outrage culture, calling someone a honky won't even get a whimper. Plus Gandalf normalized it.

I'm pretty sure we are "of the Black" though. Idk if we actually get it as a title, but I remember the NPCs referring to me as "Faye of the Black" during the BLM class quests. Will see if I can get a quote later ...At least, in North America and Western Europe, “the Black” indicates someone Evil.

And it kinda works bc of the stigma associated with Black Magic. It's a whole theme of the BLM quests.

I believe that's what Shantotto called us in 70 level job quest after last fight. So aye, while there's no wearable title (for whatever reason), the BLM players are "of the Black".I'm pretty sure we are "of the Black" though.
