Hiding glamours? Eh, by itself I don't really care. I just think that some in this thread have questionable agendas. But I think hiding other players is taking it way too far and it goes against the very nature of an MMO. MMO stands for "Massively Multiplayer Online". That means that people are signing up to play a game that involves other people at some point or another. If they can't handle that then perhaps the genre isn't for them. I\m not shaming them for that, but I think it's a fair observation. Some people also don't like to socialize but will tolerate others to get things done. Some days I'm that guy, to be fair, but I'm fully aware of the type of game I signed up for. But anyway, if they are looking for a fully customizable experience there's plenty of single player games that allow for modding. Skyrim is my preference there. lol One can shape the game in literally every imaginable way and it is amazing.

As I've said before here or in another thread (don't remember), there's no solid game right now that provides online "WoW like" (holy trinity, tab targeting, ...) dungeons and raids without being an MMORPG. People who are only interested in that type of content are forced to engage in the "massively multiplayer" aspect as well (to some extend).

If I want to enjoy story and open world, I would indeed prefer Skyrim. Skyrim doesn't have online dungeons and raids though.

Agreed. And this is also where people are getting confused, thinking that MMORPG, or Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, means something other than being massively multiplayer, online, and an RPG.

Massively = lots of players.
Multiplayer = multiple players in the same game world.
Online = duh
Role Playing Game = also duh

^ Given that definition, I am under absolutely no obligation to interact with, acknowledge the existence of, look at, see, or be around the other thousands of people playing.
Square Enix is also under no obligation to implement such a feature, but to say that it would be "taking it too far" if they did add it is complete nonsense.

Interestingly enough I mainly play games like ffxiv and wow for the gameplay such as raids, crafting, pvp etc . . . The social aspect is something I personally can do without. As players who more then likely enjoy the same game I do not think it is wrong to look past oneself for a moment and understand that maybe not everyone has the same preferences be them based around bigotry or not we have no means to know what the true intent behind ones actions are when it comes to online interactions and I do think we should take things with a grain of salt because I do feel that often times how one acts or says online may not always be a proper reflection of their views or values and simply a product of that one moment in time.

In short it is just an option no need to take it so personally.

Modern MMO's just aren't very social. You team up with other players from time to time to progress the MSQ's or earn tomes but you can do as much without ever talking to other players since the group finder systems are completely automated.

There's a handful of people I socialise with in-game. Everybody else is just a face in the crowd. I don't care for the 'LOOK AT ME' style 'socialising' that has become common in recent years. It just isn't nearly as satisfying for me as the tight knit, server driven socialising that existed back in the early years of WoW.

Nobody needs to leave the game just because they don't want to fawn over strangers.

I was more or less referring to players who simply can't tolerate group play at all, even if it means they can't progress their game. I get the not wanting to socialize bit because I've been that guy before, but I do feel that players playing an MMORPG like this one need to be open to the possibility that they may need other people to get some things done, and if not then their time may be better spent elsewhere. Obviously I can't tell people how to spend their time and money, but I can have my opinion on it at least. But yeah, I spend more time paying attention to what I'm doing and not what others are unless I'm in group content where you kinda have to pay attention to that. I suppose that helps, and I understand that is harder to do for some than it is for others. My overall opinion on this topic hasn't changed, but I get where some people are coming from.

But the idea has been around for as long as the glamour system has been in place. Replace the "homophobia" argument with "tanks in bikinis", its been something that has been argued for a long long time.
