Well, FCs are getting a new rank. I wonder what this will entail?

I'm going to guess some new Crest options and that'll be about it... Maybe a new tier of Actions, or additional FC Chest space, if SE is feeling fancy.
I'm just glad that the group requirement on Workshop crafting is finally going away. It served absolutely no purpose, and removing it opens the door to do more things with the Workshop IMO, but I'm doubtful we'll see anything done there.
I get the idea behind it, but the implementation was abysmal. One person did everything while three people just sat around waiting, it wasn't an engaging system. It was a purely artificial requirement that was seemingly placed with the hope people would come together to enjoy it, rather than any understanding of how people play video games...
It would have been much better IMO, if everyone in a FC with the relevant permissions, could do their own projects in the Workshop. So you'd potentially have a number of different ones going on at once, and you could look at what others are doing and perhaps help out? Same goes for Airships/Subs IMO, have a relevant permission that lets individuals have their own. Rather than a FC having four total, you'd have one per member potentially. Again, that's just more engaging. Rather than one or two people being in charge of the Airships, you've got potentially everyone in your FC coming to work in the Workshop on their own projects and sending off their own ships.
That would feel far more social than "You guys sit there and wait while I trade everything in".

It wasn't, though. You didn't have to be in the same FC. So I and others would just ask our linkshells if anyone had time to come stand in our workshop. And the other people didn't have to do anything, just stand around while you turned in.
They could have implemented something that required you to be in the FC and craft together but that could hurt smaller FCs. So this is a good compromise.
That doesn't meant it wasn't the purpose, just that it doesn't force it upon you, which I never said.It wasn't, though. You didn't have to be in the same FC. And of course it hasn't really been effective at that, which is why they're removing it.
I don't have anything specific to add at the moment, I just want to throw my support behind the full list of suggestions you've got.
In particular an in-game Calendar with be a game changer, as useful as discord is I dislike it being essentially mandatory to drag all my members to discord just to get anything done.
Well, it's nice that FC's got a little love this update but I still feel like we're in need of a few more QoLs.
I am beyond pleased we got expanded chest space, that was sorely needed! But I would have liked more actions, the ability to have a third action active, and to be able to charge grade 3 actions quicker. But choosy beggars and all that.
Do you think we'll see more updates to Free Companies in the next patch or will we be waiting a few years for the next improvements?
This game needs more Guild Content, things in this game, which gives players good reasons to become part of a guild actively and supporting it to grow:
- Add Guild Fates, special Fates that only Guilds can start and complete for a guild related currency, rewarding FCs with a recognizable RanK Boost and rewarding participating players with alot of stuff that is earnable only via doing Guild Fates
- Add Guild Sieges, special Guild vs Guild Pvp with different group size types like 8v8, 24v24, 72v72, 104v104 with special own siege/war map for that
- Add Guild Crusades, a unique form of Raid Content only doable by Guilds where Guilds can earn unique equipment glamours and unique temporary Guild Buffs that last for a week
Lack of guild content has been one of the issues plaguing the game since launch.
I believe Yoshida said something like he does not want people who are not in guilds to be left out or something along those lines. It was said many years ago when people were complaining about it.
The lack of guild content is why most guilds are 6-10 ppl in this game and everyone does content in cross world statics and stuff. People just use Guilds as glorified chat channels more or less. Guilds in FFXIV are only for the social aspect, which in my opinion is completely missing the point of a guild.
I do not see this changing it has been a core philosophy since the launch of ARR. As for updates, I expect some more vanity stuff maby or some housing updates. Nothing that ties into battle content though.
