I think people like yourself are missing the point here. For a lot of people, being forced to stay inside also means not getting paid. Sure, houses aren't being razed and cities aren't being submerged, but a pandemic doesn't help pay the bills. It affects people in other ways that still make getting by on a daily basis difficult, whether they are infected or not.

You are forgetting something very important right there: People are _forced_ to stay at home and don't do it because they want to. Sadly in this case, it comes at a cost.
Not being able to work results in losing your income and maybe even your job. Dunno if you've watched the news the past week, but the economies of many countries are clearly in danger right now. Also, this crisis is affecting not one or two countries, but the whole world right now. So yeah...I'd say our situation is at least on par with the natural disasters you mentioned.
Me too, Erenville, me too
This is an unprecedented virus affecting many worldwide from working and I totally support a demolition suspension at this point. I for one do not support the enter the house model and think a paying sub is all that should count but given the nature of this event many will be without jobs and unable to even pay their subs.
It's a none sense. How has this not happened yet? We are in a global pandemic where people are losing jobs, homes, and lives. People are self isolating or being hospitalised and may lose access to the game worldwide.
SE has suspended housing demolition for way less, this is probably the most valid time in the history of the game for this to be enacted.
Suspending housing demolition is for when you don't have access to your house in real life, like tsunami.
With covid-19, you must stay home and you have all time for play.
Don't worry, you guys are missing something important also:
A bunch of companies that regularly collect bills from people for various things like electricity and mortgage and so on are actually instituting plans for this also, like being able to skip a payment or being generally more lenient because of the event. The companies realize the customers aren't getting paid because of this, which in turn means they aren't going to get paid either, so clearly it is in their best interest to do this. Is everyone doing it? No, obviously not.
The unfortunate truth is that if you are cutting it so tightly that 1-2 weeks of no pay is going to impact you that harshly, you should probably work more on your budgeting and saving skills and less on your video game house decorating skills.
I don't know where you are from, but if the companies in your country are doing this it's a great thing to help the people out during those times. I wish they'd do this where I am from, as well. Sadly, they don't plan to yet. In my country those companies have no interest in letting you skip your bills yet, which is kinda understandable, as they also need to survive and can't give their Services away for free. They were promised some help from our government already but that's it. Rents and everything else still has to be paid like normally.Don't worry, you guys are missing something important also:

As for your snarky remark about peoples saving skills, I for myself am still in training at my company, meaning I'm not earning much already as it is. I don't have much room to put back money for hard times yet, but I get by fine normally and without many problems. This situation right now scares me because my future is unsafe at this point. Once my company decides on shortening working hours, I can count on getting my full income for 6 weeks, but after that? It will most likely get cut down to 60%...so yeah.
If it were only one or two weeks we were talking about, that's fine. I think everyone can get by for that long. But we don't know how long it will take until Corona is gone. It could be months. Where I am from, schools are closed until the end of April. Many shopping malls and stores except supermarkets, pharmacies etc are closed until the end of May. That's not 1-2 weeks with no pay for a lot of people. And it could even be longer than that, we just don't know yet.

Oh please tell me, you are not living in the US and saying this crap.
So many people here seem to forget you tend to not get paid when you're not working.
Makes me wonder if these people pay for their own subs. Or even their own living expenses. Clearly they forget you need to work to get money, and you need money to play this game.
Sure some countries are providing assistance, but many are not or cannot.
This is one of the most valid cases for stopping the timer because it's impacting the entire world and its economy. People who are getting their bills paid by someone else or get to work from home should take a moment to empathize with people who chose a different kind of job or lost their own business. It would also be unfortunate if the ones running society right now lost their in-game houses just because they got infected at work and had to be hospitalized.
