Please Remove Housing Timers During the Covid-19 Epidemic

I think people are panicking and rightfully so, because it spreads fast like Ebola, can go into stealth mode(like HIV before it progresses to AIDS) and it kills those that are elderly or already have some other debilitating disease. These people dont want to die and they dont want to kill others.

Yeah feel like if SE wanted to be nice right now, they could do like a free login for a week or 2, think a vast majority of folks are just going to at home because of all the job and school closures.

If they were smart they would just let people play for free for 1 month with all expansions.
Not only it would be nice for people currently playing, but also would help people stay at home and potentially gain new customers that would be sink into the game.

You are more likely to die or suffer any long-term complications just going about your day normally in Chicago than you are letting people literally cough into your mouth and nose (unless you have respiratory issues) in an attempt to be infected.


Unless we learn that covid19 has some supermagic powers that include "not being similar to every other COV strain" (which based on everything anyone working on medical research [myself included, hithere!] has seen, it absolutely doesnt), I wish nothing more than businesses that are panic closing, conventions that panic shuttered, and any company urging people to hide in a hole like its the end of days goes bankrupt and never reopens, and those people in charge of making those statements never get hired by another company and find themselves living in a hole until the end of theirs.

While I'm not a medical researcher I do work in a hospital as a housekeeper. I'm so tired of the complete overreaction every time a new sniffle comes around. The last three years we've had some kind of outbreak. Be it Zeka, Ebola or now Corona the media won't shut up about it and treats it like it's the worst epidemic in history. Every. Single. Time. and people buy into it Every. Single. Time. It gets old fast.

Do basic hygiene, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and generally just be aware of your situation and you'll be gravy. These are all things you should be doing anyways.

This is serious. I truly cannot comprehend how selfish some people can be.

No, it's not about YOU, mister young with no compromised immune system. Yes, you will likely be fine, recover, and carry on living.
But it's people like you that continue to spread this virus. Spread it to other people whom may, in turn, be the elderly or asthmatic or suffer from a weak immune system, or to someone whom they themselves have contact with people who are in the vulnerable group.

It's not about you, it's about those who will likely die, those who have indeed died who could have gone on living had you only had the decency to respect the requests your government is making of you.

Look at Italy. Learn from it, don't repeat the same mistakes.

Just today, half the employees at my workplace were given the news their contracts aren't being renewed (it's a big restaurant, this is 20ish people give or take).
Starting april, they are all out of a job.

Chinese, Korean, Japan, India, Italian, Spanish, German, Polish, France, USA, UAE, Turkey, Taiwanese, Singapore epidemiologists, doctors and researchers from around the world with WHO on top they all are overreacting by locking down entire countries, sacrificing the economy and shutting down almost all international travel, what a bunch of lunatics.
Instead they should listen to the FFXIV game forum epidemiologists and their expertise on the pandemic of a disease we never encountered, neither did our immune systems and there is no cure for it yet.

Eh if only they knew this forum exists...

I was so disappointed that I had to remind someone of this. It's not as if the NA servers are completely cut off from all other regions and they know this is a japanese game.

I also sometimes see people refer to this forum as the NA forums, again forgetting other countries speak english and many countries have people who are bilingual and can speak excellent if not fluent english...nevermind how these forums are labelled as english, not NA.

I know most americans aren't so close minded to forget other nations exist but it is pretty annoying to see it when it happens. Especially when the topic is a global crisis.

However I'm more annoyed by the sheer lack of empathy some have for those whose jobs are at risk due to no fault of their own, and that the job market is going to be terrible due to the virus.

We all need to still find happiness in times like this and people saying stuff like "you should be thinking of more serious things than a virtual house" clearly don't realise that when you're stuck at home and with very little income, games might be among the few things to keep your mental health from straining with worry over a situation entirely out of your control.

Whether someone thinks the virus is deadly or not is immaterial. It doesn't change the fact that the pandemic is putting people out of work.

I'm sure politicians get a lot out of tanking their economies for nothing, right? /s. If anything they tried to downplay it as long as possible. Even WHO took forever to officially qualify it as a pandemic.

Given the R0 and current estimated death rate for the virus (may I remind you that 9% of closed cases have resulted in death as of this post. So basically only 91% of tested positive individuals survive it). If left unchecked we'd see a good million deaths in the USA alone.
When it comes to exponential growth rates, any proper reaction seems like an overreaction.. Until it isn't.

Well of course they'd do it during disasters that force you out of your home. But disasters that make you stay inside your homes, where you can log in freely? mmnnnahhhh, i don't think so. "But I have to wooork" Yeah, you'd have to work if there was no virus. Why make an exception for that? lol

Now that being said, maybe a little incentive to stay home would be nice, not that I need it. But MTG:Arena made a game mode free apparently and maybe a week long buff to gathering rates or xp or somethin, that would be cool.
