Why is asking to have an option to do/see/think/say/read/write/hear become offensive to others?

The person never asked to the dev team to FORCE you to have the sets up that the other people have be yours as well. I am fine with havibg many options for the many different AND similar taste of many different peope.

I guess people think that if someone wants to have a unique look or just a standarize look is being entitled. Just reevaluate your criteria. Some people like to think they are in a different world (so many isekai genre in the comics books and even saw movies with that genre), whilenothers just only care about their aesthetic in the city and well running in a dungeon to get exp and level is irrelevant. Any idea is fine. It is just something that is not harming you. If you think that is wrong then overall we all player are harming society by playing video games that is just for kids =P.

Whether it's someone opting to hide my character on their screen or the other way around, I wouldn't have an issue with it.

In my experience the players who are most eager to be seen tend to be the sort to embrace unpleasant aesthetics, be it through how they opt to decorate their houses or by the way in which they opt to glamour their character.
Maybe I'll take it a step further then since we're finally reaching some extreme heights.

How about we just give players the option to kick other players from their server? You know, since some people want to play their MMOs in peace. Don't want those dang players showing up in my MMORPG!

Sounds a bit ridiculous, but you know what? I'd bet a fair amount of gil that you would support it.

Saw that coming since page 1. And it is probably the worst suggestion this thread has to offer which is saying a lot.
I’m glad I could finally provide.

But it was less an enthusiastic “hell yeah, let’s just toggle players off!!!” and more “if you don’t want to look at me then don’t look at all.” My real, unhelpful, and unsympathetic opinion? This is an MMO and if you want a totally immersive experience that caters to you, then go play a single player game.

If you want a game where you can just treat other players like customizable NPCs, Animal Crossing comes out on Friday. I suggest some people in this thread check it out.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, truly. I was just stating my take on it.

People play MMORPG's for different reasons. Me personally, I just like doing dungeons and raids/tials. Also like story and open world content but that's secondary for me since I'd rather do that in a single player RPG. The MMO aspect isn't what sells it for me, it's instanced combat.

As far as I know, there's no other game that offers "WoW like" instances that isn't an MMO. If there were and it is polished, I'd play that. Closest thing might be Monster Hunter World, which doesn't have tab targeting and doesn't represent holy trinity (tank/healer/dps) well. I heard classic RPGs is what MMO instanced content is based upon, but those are obviously outdated and likely won't offer online multiplayer.

When I do play story and open world content, I couldn't give 2 damns about seeing other players. I do it solo and treat it as a single player RPG so I can immerse myself in it and enjoy it that way. For that reason I'd rather have players hidden on my client sometimes, specifically when I'm doing instances for the first time for example (so it feels like I'm solo killing everyone as Warrior of Light) and in overcrowded areas like in Eulmore. Personally I find that the MMO aspect makes the story awkward sometimes.

I'd tap into my trust fund if it meant I could pay to transfer some players to different servers.

    ...I'm kidding, of course.

More seriously, though, it'd be much easier logistically to just make other characters vanish on a client side screen than it would be to transfer everything about their character to another server/data centre. Ultimately, though, the proposal made in the original thread is a pretty fair compromise and it what most in support of the thread are pushing for.

For funsies I clicked on the Dispel Glamour button to see what my jobs looked like without glamour. Yech.... mismatched items; I wouldn't want people to see her like that. Makes me wonder how I survived EQ1 with all the "patchwork knights" that were running around.

WoW was like that up until the end of Cataclysm when their transmog system was first introduced. I started in the middle of the expansion before that, but even then it was pretty obvious that there were some mismatched items being worn. lol I strived to have a set that looked well even if my stats took a small hit. Unfortunately it was like the glamour system we have in FF XIV currently. No logs, no collections. Just...items that need to be stored. My banks were full before the next expansion (MoP) was even halfway through. WoD did me no favors. Legion finally gave us a collections tab where appearances were stored and I nearly cried with joy. I hope we get something similar someday here. Though to be honest, I would just be happy if they opened the glamour dresser to a greater number of appearances to account for any and all items in the game that actually have an appearance. That would probably be the simplest solution I guess.

Imagine being such a stick in the mud that you let other people's outfits ruin your experience.

    Yikes.

Glamour is a form of self-expression in this virtual world. I don't want people to see me in some generic getup, I want people to see the outfit I put together that I'm using to express myself. Big no to this.

All I want is the option for catboys to disappear on my screen.
