I don't know for another languages, but in french the Ludovraint npc is clearly telling you that it is not a competition, and to do that at your personnal pace. Not really SE's fault if players are skipping all dialogs, or choose to ignore what is clearly stated.

First off a game or a game's system is never what is effecting peoples health. If people are really that bad at self control they have bigger problems. Really,I don't get why people go so overboard add in work, maybe daily, but if your there sitting down for 24 hours -56 hours straight you know that your risking your health for a fantasy game.
I mean Damn I spend a bit of time on games, but I don't do it for the fake currency and ranking that honestly isn't possible to give a real reward. I mean are you really going to do something that obessively for a title or a mount and say you care about your health because I got news for you. You don't just look at the higher ranker players on wow everyone one of them have alot of health issues and you can tell it by just looking at them and the room they are in when they are on twitch.
Also using this virus as a defense and excuse for the sure lack of self controll is just sad when your safer at home than out in the public for once.
I mean damn even when I was 15 I knew that if you play for long periods of time your body will suffer so honestly, there is no excuse this isn't on the company or game its on the people who make the choice when they are old enough to know better.

I just didn't take part in it. Already got a friend I can barely talk to that lives in Diadem.
Yeah FFXI really is the best example of this. PUP and BLU came out and had people capping it with in 2 days of release. This was before abyssea and well everything that followed. Leveling from 1 to 75 was not a quick task by any means, so they really had to no life it to get to 75.
Also general no lifing for most of the HNMs.
The horizontal progressive nature of that game is very anti-no lifing, but some people ignore it, especially if they had TODs to those 24 hr NMs.

If you're letting a virtual game affect your real life health you need to change your priorities.
Just sayin'.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

I'd expect these people know better than to stay up super late to keep their artificial e-peen afloat, especially since noone will care once this event is over- if they're suffering for it, they choose to do it. So, that's on them. Most people have jobs. A lot of people (thinking this ranking is a 1-time thing) are staying up late to keep up their position, and then going to work half-tired.
That's likely killing their immune system and just generally unhealthy.
Other people who don't have a job just aren't sleeping some days, so they can pull ahead.
The issue here isn't a competition.
It's a competition with no information. Can you get the titles in the future? What's the reward? How often will it rerun? Do item scores carry over (e.g. can you hoard over a few weeks)? Etc.
It's basically artificial unnecessary scarcity.
And based on the -many- shouts from players, it's clearly affecting people's health.
All of this.If you're one of those people that stays up for days to play FFXIV for some arbitrary award, that's not SE's fault. You have a problem that you need to resolve on your own. Maybe see a therapist. Demanding SE tells you every little detail about the game so you're not 'pressured' to play in an extremely unhealthy manner won't solve your problem; you'll just do it with some other aspect of the game instead. Maybe instead of taking away the trigger or thing you're addicted to, maybe work on the addiction itself. Playing so long it makes you sick isn't normal. Get some help.
I said this before about all the rabid "world firsters" and I'll say it again here about this too.

Is the game holding a gun in the head of the players, forcing them to do this? No? Then it's the players fault. Simple
When i see aLalafellcharacter wearing a cute glam

Nagafen died, time for a cleric in every halfway serious raid guild on the server that hasnt finished all of theirs to spend the next 1-72 hours sitting in one spot to turn some items in.

Nobody can stop people that want to no life from doing so. This will always be the result of anything remotely competitive in games- so either SE doesn't include anything competitive in the game, or the no lifers go for it.
Question is why are you pretending to be concerned about the health of some people you don't know and would never normally care the slightest bit about if you couldn't use your supposed caring for their plight as leverage to attempt to get an aspect of the game changed in a way you desire?
