How about a Final Fantasy XIV - 2!?.

A continuation to this game using the latest video game technology available, it would overcome all the current limitations while giving us a whole new adventure.

I would be fine with any kind of plot they came out with, as long as they maintain all the races from this game, said otherwise, as long as they keep Miqo'te & Hyur Midlander I would be happy to jump ships to the next adventure.

I agree that overhauling or even remaking this game is a waste of resources when they could be working in the next Final Fantasy Online which will be even greater than this game.

    ----------

Forgot to mention, SE must work in the AI department, if the game feels dead is because it has no AI for NPCs, nowadays that AI is a huge thing Final Fantasy games can benefit from it by creating smart NPCs that will be living inside the game not just standing there doing nothing.

suspect that just as they ditched PS3 support as it died off and PS4 was the dominant sony console, that eventually they'll nix ps4 support and require ps5. But not for a while, it won't be until the PS5 is in full swing and the PS4 is fading away in terms of support.

I am pretty sure they will make a new MMO before changing anything in XIV.
It pretty is, jaguar CPU in those ancient machines is really bad and developers have huge problems when creating living moving worlds with it. The consoles themselves were technologically inferior 1 year after release and cant even hold today games in 1080p in stable 30 fps... The jaguar CPU on ps4/xbox one is so bad that is actually worse than PS3 cell CPU, which has been discovered to be on pair with current intel cpus when it comes to efficiency.
The current generation of consoles are such a huge mistake that sony and ms had to create a better version ps4 pro and xbox one x in order to keep their playerbase jumping over to PC.

Be that as it may.. the PS4 isn't holding XIV back at all tho. Yes the base PS4 was pretty weak but it's lack of power has nothing to do with XIV or anything. Hell it's been stated people on 32 bit systems and walmart computers that are now the new hold back. The ps4 is not it.

The Jaguar CPU isn't good, but man, what delusions you live in.

You ever played God of War or Spider-Man (two relatively recent releases) on day 1 PS4s? 1080p and stable 30 FPS, easily. It really sounds like you're just basing all of your information on reports and trolls. I mean, honestly, even this game, XIV, the only time I see frame drops are in crowded areas like Eulmore. For 99% of my XIV gaming, there is a very steady frame rate. So, yeah, your claims are utter hyperbole.

Jaguar CPU still bad, but the PS4 isn't some commodore 64 that you make it out to be.

There are a lot of games where standard ps4 cannot hold constant 30 fps, its a fact not delusion. God of war is heavily instanced game and even this drops below 30 on ps4. Reddead redemtion 2 drops, ESO drops, neverwinter drops, gta 5 drops, battlefield 5 and 1 also drops.
Its outdated and inferior and will block any future advancements for ffxiv like it or not. Even ffxiv drops below 30 fps on ps4

They're not going to bother with a new MMO, that's just facing facts. The MMO industry is in decline with only a handful making a profit anymore (FFXIV being one of them), and thus things are so much different than they were back in 2006 when SE first made the decision to create a new FF MMORPG instead of simply upgrading FFXI - back then, it was all about "killing WoW" (or at least riding it's coattails). Every MMO wanted to knock-off Blizzard's cash-cow as "most popular MMO". SE has done that with FFXIV ARR (or at least, kicked them to the side and is now trying to hog the pedestal).

As FFXIV is still doing extremely well, with a recent expansion that (mostly) is regarded as the best expansion for the game yet, it's clear to stick with a holding pattern and keep things as they are, as that makes money rather than costing them money that may not be made back.

And, given the current world situation and global economy that is tanking fast, who can seriously blame them?

Yeah, mmos are in a decline, kids are all over battle royal and mobas, with instant gratification being more of a thing than grinds and time spent for rewards.

I doubt we'll see many new mmos releasing in the next decade. Unfortunately.

IMO with FFXIV. When it gets ported to the next gen platform the only realistic expectation I see for the game due to its age is that that new version will run a steady 60fps on 4K because the new hardware will be able to handle it. I don't expect giant visual overhauls to come about as we're playing on an engine originally designed to run on a PS3. (Albeit it kind of worked that system to death initially during 1.0 resulting in things being toned down for 2.0) It wont be until they decide to make the next MMO title in the series that we're really going to see what the systems are capable of in regards to an FF MMO. I kind of want them to release a new Dragon Quest MMO before that as I'm kind of salty that DQX never went global.

Don't expect them to remove console support in FFXIV nor exclude console support in the next MMO because Japanese gamers mainly play on console than PC.

For the west, MMOs are at a decline but not so much for the east. To be fair, it's mostly China and South Korea who are big on MMOs while Japan is more into mobile games but MMOs are attracting a lot of attention recently, especially with all the 'isekai' anime/manga/content that's been popping up recently. The possibility of a new FF MMO is still there.
