-Engine upgrade ? To maybe support fully seamless open world maybe ? Land, air and underwater?
    - underwater combat? Air combat? Naval combat?
Textures were created low resolution so this is not going to happen any time soon.

Even though there is learning AI that can upscale images these days, it's difficult to upscale textures because there was never a high resolution version to begin with.

This system is really too old to be trying to take advantage of graphics updates and as others have said it's likely to be dumped for a new MMO since at this time it looks like they stopped playing with In House Game engines as much and actually took things to task by using Unreal.

Given that I remember this went from Crystal Tools, and a modified version of Luminous I think another move is just not worth it. But who knows.

Even if they hardly change anything you're getting way better performance. Ultra speed NVMe SSD as standard in new consoles with 7GB/s read/write makes load times go away.

They will almost certainly make a native PS5 version with a higher performance profile than the back-compat PS4 version. Higher framerate, higher resolution, higher player and object quantity rendering.

Big enough improvements without needing them to improve asset quality, pretty much just bumping up in line with running the game on a high-end PC.

    Right.

But the OP is asking for suggestions to improve the game not on a performance fundamental level, in which most if not all were asking for improvements that aren't going to happen because it would take much more work to change.

Yeah, 7 gb/s for sequential read/write. Not real world performance. Games aren't one large file, but lots of smaller files. We won't see load time go away, just be faster.

tbh I kind of hope they make a newer ff mmo that is open world yet stays true to final fantasy with big summons, real theivery lots of grinding and hard work.

    Is the engine upgradable?
Most likely we wont get much change i guess.
But probably a new MMO. They did say that don’t have any plans for new MMO anytime soon tho.
I would welcome a re overhaul tho, without losing progress, and continuing the story. Because all the grind and all the money spent in Mogstation ..idk if i can just let go of it and move to next MMO leaving all behind lol
But on the other hand too i’d gladly jump in a new FF MMO anytime.

I’d say graphics, seamless open world and some core gameplay would be what i want upgraded if there is some next gen-type of upgrade planned

Well as you say, there's nothing announced and no real teasers (only some about the Luminous Engine or the Ray Tracing but only for some kind of technology show off). Then you probably have two years, probably three to think about it.

They have two AAA licences to come but there's absolytly nothing about them.

I hope the next MMO FF title, likely 17, will have no instanced maps anymore, exept for maybe towns.
World Exploration where changing locations is seamless, where the explorable regions are bigger than in FF14 and alot fuller of detail, life and dynamic interactivities, without shallow boring FATES that are always the same, without creatures always spawning at the same spots abd NEVER moving around a single centimeter.

Where the combat system is fluid, fast paced, yet still complex, depthful and fun enough, like as in offline Action RpGs, similar to Games like FF7R, where players can dodge attacks, Parry attacks, counterattack attacks snd fully customizethe combat style to your likings with a triangle based class system based on Class/Job/Specialization with the traditional jobs from FF being used as Specializations, while the equipped weapon defines the job, getting this way more customization options, becoming able to play the same class with different weapons snd different specializations that define our roles then in the game

Considering the mess of coding this game was before, and after it was salvaged for relaunch, we're all better off just waiting on their next title to be built from the ground up. SE isn't going to dump that kinda time/money into ff14 again when they can pull an Apple and marginally upgrade as needed to last the games lifetime.
