I believe that the reason they were scrapped was because not enough people were doing them, so they thought that people didn't like them.

Which would be glossing over the fact that their rewards have been pretty bad for ages...

Kinda like CC. No one's using it in raids or dungeons past HW, so we must not want it, ever, right?...
