Are you struggling to find your role as a healer fun?

Do you join duties as healer for the rewards, because you like the role, or because you are hoping to be aknowledged by other players?

I don't mind healing derps. Especially when I know the player is trying, and for the most part they are. That's a big reason why I choose to play this role and enjoy it, and I'm probably going to be one of the last healers to gripe when I need to do my job.

There are times when i feel underappreciated, sure. From both my teammates and the devs. That is frustrating indeed. And I may bark on about killing everyone, but I'm just clowning. It is always my intention to keep everyone alive to the best of my ability, and it doesn't really matter how much I have to heal through mistakes. I make plenty of my own.

I probably queue up as healer for all those reasons you mentioned. It's the role I am the most comfortable playing. The demand is probably the lowest out of the three roles overall, but carries the highest demand when it comes to preventing things from turning in favor of the CPU, or turning it back in favor of the players when it is. That is one of the most enjoyable experiences I think anyone can have as a healer. Where things looks grim, and a reset is imminent; yet somehow the friggin healer(s) turned the tide and brought the party back from the brink.

Funny thing about those experiences is that a lot of peeps will think that the encounter was a lot more difficult than it had to be, and I'm over here thinking, "Yup. Gonna let you all burn next time!"

While I'm not above a bit of salt, on the whole I like healing. I like feeling like I'm important, and I like needing to heal or attack as the situation calls for it. I like my parties to know that whatever insane things they may try, I've got their back.

On the rage side however, I've found myself adopting a philosophy: I am here to heal unavoidable damage, plus a little bit for the occasional mistake because we're all human. I am not here to help carry people through all their poor life choices. It's a way of insulating myself, acknowledging that if someone repeatedly gets hit by mechanics again and again, their deaths are more their fault than mine. It's less anger, and more recognizing that keeping the party alive is a group effort, and like any group project if they're insisting I do all the work, they're probably gonna complain to me about the grade, and I'll be judging them and praying I never have to work with them again.

I enjoy healing, to me it's much less stressful than other roles. But I generally only do content with friends or with Trusts these days because running with randoms is stressful on any role

I went in as healer to have angel wings, have a fairy waifu and grab a globe, spew cards and muttering prophecies.

Tbh I haven't (and will not) lv AST, but yes, that's motivation

No, because I take breaks and do other content or play other games if I start to feel miserable. This is a game at the end of the day and the point of a game is to have fun. If you arent having fun, why do you keep torturing yourself?

Do I roll my eyes when people continuously stand in bad stuff? Yes.

But, I roll my eyes harder when I'm tanking and I get the healers that insist on only using Cure / Benefic and never DPSing, especially when I'm at full health. I'd rather be the healer and DPS to make the run faster than deal with that.

Somehow, I always end up being the bad guy when I say anything about it.

Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for your mental health.

I don't mind dying to an occasional slip, especially if the healer is new to the role (and since many prior healer mains are playing other jobs, there's a greater chance of that) ... what irks the crap out of me is when the healer lets the whole group ride at low health after unavoidable damage, while they furiously mash their precious few DPS buttons trying to parse higher.

On that note, I've gotta admit, duty finder PUGs are more pleasurable while people are waiting for a plug-in update, and healers seem a bit more willing to cast that extra heal or two. I can see why Square doesn't provide an in-game parser. :P

I used to like healing. But with the dumbing down of the dps to literally 1-2 buttons I just level them and then play tank or dps.

Its sad though, this is the only expansion I have seen where adventurer and need has been healer so frequently.
