Healing is now a state of permanent hatred.

Have you gotten into a Roulette and just felt this urge to let everybody just rush in and die? Are you tempted to type angrily in chat everytime somebody makes a mistake in a duty run?

Do you get out of dungeons without saying a word to anybody, wanting to get rid of the other player's presence as fast as you can?
Are you struggling to find your role as a healer fun?

Do you join duties as healer for the rewards, because you like the role, or because you are hoping to be aknowledged by other players?

What makes you enjoy healing in FFXIV?

Well, MMO healing has always been known to make MMO healers bitter. At its worst, though, it doesn't make me want to let people die, but it does make me want to step away for a bit - anywhere from a few minutes to even a day+, depending on the incident.

For me, I enjoy have a role that plays an important part, but isn't leading from the front like a tank. It also feels pretty good to save someone thought to be doomed, when mechanics/etc allow for this. Or to help a learning party along by ensuring they at least have solid heals and quick rezzes. Etc.

As far as acknowledgement goes. Well, yes, it does feel good when you hard carry a party over the finish line and get 3/7 comms. But I wouldn't stay on the role just for that.

I hope you are able to find some enjoyment in it again. Take a break if you need to.

I'm about as typical a career MMO healer as you can get I guess. I was more flexible in FFXI, raiding primarily as a Bard, with a caster sideline of WHM, BLM or SCH when needed and I did do a strange stint in WoW as a Tank, but otherwise, from Everquest (Unless anatomy in UO counts?) to FFXIV, I've exclusively healed.

And in honesty, it's rare that I feel properly jaded about my group, as long as people are making a fair effort, I'm not really bothered about how good or bad things are. Thus most duties don't really bother me no matter how bad they get. 24 man can get a bit frustrating though, as you see a lot more freeloading there. Poking and standing on their corpses is usually entertaining enough

Above all, I love the role and it just suits my play style. I'm pretty awful at timing and maintaining CDs, but adapting on the fly and playing reactively is far more my thing. And just think, my group has me playing SCH this tier. Whoops.

I've been a healer since time immemorial, and I've honestly never felt this anger unless it's just one of those days or people refuse to listen altogether. Generally I just like feeling like I'm helping out, the only part that every keeps me from healing is the stress of failing.

I've definitely evolved from my early years as the "Please forgive me for not healing you fast enough, uwu!" type healer to the more jaded "You're all fools and should be grateful I deigned to use a GCD Afflatus Rapture and save you from your folly!" type healer. Though that bitterness only arises after several mistakes and always kept to myself. In most instances, I rarely utter anything besides an initial greeting in an attempt to be polite and am happy to shoulder the responsibility of being the lifeline.

Though I do find myself sinking back to my younger healer self when I am healing friends. Something about not wanting to fail them, even when through no fault of my own, always turns the blame inward.

I loved healing to Shadowbringers, and now I hate healing.

Also as a whole the skill level of healers seems to have dropped since than. I have far more deaths now (which is sad considering the kits, and less dps tools to use) from lack of healing than I had prior to Shadowbringers (and I'm not talking about deaths when I die due to mechanics and not getting healed back right away).

I believe the quality of healers has dropped due to the amount of career healers, like myself, who have either walked away from the role altogether or no longer heal in DF.

A lot of us saw it coming, both on here and Reddit. Other players constantly telling us it will be fine and to play something else if we don’t like it. But, I mean, we told them so.

They wanted to make healers more accessible and easier to play...but naturally the result, over time, would be what we have now; a drop in quality of healer players. *shrug*

I can go back to 2004 when I discovered I was a natural at the role in FFXI, after trying all the other jobs. It's the control over peoples lives that thrills me but in kind of a paternal way. The others are like my children, and I care about my children. I know what you are feeling when you are low on health. You think you're about to die, but you wont. When I'm your healer and you play with me for some time, you know you wont.

Then there was the 2 defining moments I had.. nearly duo'd sea horror with a vl75 mnk, while I was just a lvl28WHM..man that was.. a long fight, nope, we didn't win, but I was not gonna let that guy go down without a fight lol. Then there was the great link of Kuftal Tunnel(might have been Gustev.. I can't remember which. It has the Guivre in it). Something like 20 freaking ghost mobs(banshees) wiped 2 groups in the alliance, while no one died in my group.

Yeah. Healer is ME. It defines me.

Obviously the situation is a little different now in FFXIV. There's nothing particularly spectacular in the way of healing, but it all feels the same. I job switch into one and I feel like me again.

It's not my main job in FFXIV though. That's DNC. I don't heal trails/alliance raids as I don't like working with other healers I don't know, so..I don't do enough content to warrent playing it full time.

I get annoyed by others players whether I'm a healer or not. Except when I'm not the healer, I wish I was because usually whoever is sucks at it anyway. But then when I'm the healer I wish I was the tank because they suck and someone needs to take it away from them.

If I ever heal it's because I know there will be at least one competent healer around. And the same goes for any other role I play. People complain about low DPS this, or gutted toolkit that, but the fact that I can out-DPS everyone in an alliance raid as a MCH means the bar is pretty low for like 90% of the content. So I really only get mad at how much people don't even try. As a healer I might still be carrying them through it and they don't learn anything, but at least I don't have to deal with constant wiping.
