I think some are greatly exaggarating when it comes to how "biased" or "bad" IGN is. Look at this line in the article: "It has improved greatly since those days and the plan laid out by the development team for version 2.0 shows promise." That seems about right to me. And as much as I like FFXIV, it lacks the real polish of any FF between 4 and 13 really, so I agree that it is the "worst" so far, especially at launch.

I don't understand how FFXI isn't on their greatest list. FFXI was amazing and is still the only MMO to tell an amazing story, and in such a great way. Not even TOR was able to beat FFXI's storytelling.

I'm a big fan of XI, but Shakespeare it was not, nor is it the only MMO notable for story! XI's story was pretty good, but the writing was pretty shoddy, suffering from long, rambling monologues, undying cutscenes and uneven pacing, with the PC often just wedged in as an awkward spectator. Don't get me wrong, not denying it was good, but there have been several MMOs with some pretty amazing stories, including some that did them better.

Currently this is the worst FF ever imo, maybe not others, but that doesn't mean we always will be. The thing is right now SE hasn't marketed, would you market this? No should be your answer or get new taste! But the game is not bad, its just not good enough to market, SE HATES MARKETING, idk why, but in the U.S. and probably most of the western world you will need to shove commercials somewhere to get us to even know you're crap exists, the ads on websites were nice, but what if I wasn't a lazy asshole with my computer right next to my couch (i know sad but my bf and I can see each others screens this way), and I wasn't able to browse the internet while watching tv (i know sad also, but wait tv sucks so I wouldn't mind), then I'd need a tv ad.

tldr: If FFXIV doesn't market the game after 2.0 releases, people will still only have opinion sources for advertising. (ign, and such) The key to success is to market this game more after 2.0 releases, people won't care what critics say if the commercial is badass enough, its true. That's why COD didn't even show any game footage, we knew the game would be the same, so they put celebrities in their commercial and bam, tricks the masses into buying the game again. For SE just a regular commercial would do.

They say that, but then still decide "Oh well f*** it, we'll put it on this list as the worst FF ever and not withhold additional judgement until re-release" It is an outright lack of any journalistic integrity.

Yes I absolutely agree with IGN, FFXIV is in fact the worst Final Fantasy ever released for many reasons. People can call IGN out on this if they like, but I believe most people in here would agree with them.

In Final Fantasy's history, this is the first game to go truly unpolished and released in such a horrible state which is very strange for a series that strives on excellence and being ahead of it's time. You can say FFXIII was the worst (which I thought it was great, haters :P), but it was still a polished game and still a fine contributor to the series. It is pretty much a fact that on the technical side, FFXIV is the worst title in the series.

However, people are still quick to judge IGN's thoughts. They even say in there that the game has gone a long way in improvements in it's initial release, and realize it is an MMO. They also say they understand FFXIV's situation and will look at it again in 2.0's release.

After a year and a few months, I still find it funny the community here gets in an uproar whenever external sources make criticisms (and may I remind you, most of the time fair criticisms) of the game. I find it funny because most of you make the same exact claims in these forums, and when they decide to speak up about it, you decide it is simply "hating" on the game.

While up to 1.20 has made major improvements, this game is still far from a polished state. Is it playable? Yes. Is it in the state it should be? No where near, and don't expect it till 2.0. While I think external sources should hold back till 2.0 and acknowledge it is in a "Semi-Working title" phase, what they say is "legit".
