again, second point still stands:
"if its outside the game and on some other form of media, i'd have to question why you'd "choose" to be there in the first place if it would habituate such people."
problem obv here is choice, go figure.

You do realise sometimes people get bullied, right? And sometimes in gaming communities the majority of it takes place in third party areas where game devs and GMs have no power.
I should be able to continue to possess what little control I have to not get unwanted attention that can come from a certain type of outfit. A person's need for an unglammed world should not trump someone else's need to feel comfortable and safe in the way they choose to appear in a game.
If you think disliking how a glam looks is more important than being able to protect yourself from bullies or creeps taking uncompromising screenshots of skin you did not choose to reveal, then I have to question your motives for wanting to unglam people into gear they potentially wouldn't feel comfortable wearing.
OP's suggestion will never happen so long as the game awards you fancy glamour glowsticks for the hardest (Ultimate) or grindiest (Relic) content in the game. These items exist primarily to show off and the devs know it would partially remove a participation incentive if somebody's Ultimate Dreadwyrm Blade glamour was changed to a boring Crystarium Sword in other player's screens.
Forcing people to acknowledge a character they do not wish to acknowledge is arguably a form of bullying. Especially in cases where accusations of bigotry are thrown around casually.

they have no power, but you can choose not to associate with such places. again, for YOU the problem is choice and how you deny others their option to choose cause of your own choices if you fear that.
also, i have no motives, i just am not a fan of those whom have an opressive agenda thinking a mere change that wont affect you in the slightest, unless you go out looking for it, is a reason to deny others a choice cause it somehow infringes on your 'imaginary' rights in this game that is owned by a private entity, that can easily take your options of pixle expression away on the turn of a dime.
Thats not really the same thing. What she's saying is she doesn't want you removed, she wants you changed and to say whatever she wants you to say. So if you said " I hate cats" she wants you to say " I like cats" Not anyone else, not to just block you.. she wants your opinion changed. I'm not for or against this btw, it's a stupid question that will never be answered and to have gone on this long is proving a point that people REALLY hate letting things go. Go get some icecream and hug a miqo in game.. or Elezen, or Lala - I hear they like pets - or Roe, or bara cat or viera or midlander... point is... WE HAVE A PATCH! Lets go save the planet. instead of fighting for features we will never see. :cNote: You can mute people on this forum if you never want to see what they post again. So yes. You can. And one of the proposed solutions was to replace your character with something entirely different therefor NOT changing your characters appearance anymore than muting someone on the forum replaces their posts with a placeholder "you are ignoring this user" indication. There's something there, but you probably don't want to see it, but you are being notified that they are indeed there.

Eeeh... *makes 'maybe but not really' wobble-hand motions*Exactly. People try to make it out like it's a public place, but in reality, it's a signal being transmitted from the Square Enix servers to a screen in your private home.
If somebody walked into my house wearing skimpy, disgusting clothes, I would tell them to leave until they covered up.
I'd say the better analogy is watching a TV show. You—and the TV—are in your house, but the content originates elsewhere. Yes, you're consuming that content within your private home, but that doesn't somehow confer authorial authority on you; don't really get the option to decide that a specific character on that show will dress differently or be recast with a different actress you consider 'more attractive' or whatever. (I mean, okay, you can absolutely try to do that—howling for blood in the show's subreddit or whatever—and people certainly do, much to my eternal exasperation. But it doesn't mean the show's production team will listen to that frenzied howling, nor that they're obligated to.)
But the key is that you're not inviting the actual actors and actresses of that show into your house—and thereby ask them to abide by your rules—just by watching the show. In the end, your main option if you dislike some aspect of a show is to stop watching, not to demand the TV gets a button that lets you change the outfit a character on the show is wearing.
I grant you it's not a perfect analogy because XIV is interactive, but the bulk of the non-static content—mob movements, spell resolution, existence and movement of other players—originates elsewhere and is merely being consumed within your private place, much like watching a TV show.
This is basically the closest I have seen to my thoughts on the matter. I tend to find their agenda to be oppressive as well. Meanwhile, they believe the ones who are advocating for personal choice are the ones attempting to oppress them. Again, those who are for this would not be forcing their preferences on anyone since they would not know, while those against this ARE for forcing their preferences upon everyone they play with. That is why I think of their agenda as the oppressive one.they have no power, but you can choose not to associate with such places. again, for YOU the problem is choice and how you deny others their option to choose cause of your own choices if you fear that.

Entirely not what they said. They said remove. Not replace. in fact once I mentioned replacing they said it "looked bad".
IF they're saying what you're saying then it's incorrect as well since this wouldn't be changing anything on the "changed" players side either. I wouldn't be changing someone's "opinion" anymore than I'd be changing what that person appeared like on their screen to every other person who didn't have the option enabled.
and I am playing the new patch.. this doesn't really mean I won't continue a discussion if people keep replying to my posts. I am well aware this is likely never going to happen, but discussions about what "should" and "shouldn't" be in FFXIV are interesting.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
