Just finished doing a fairly colourful run of the new dungeon during the new roulette as a PLD, it wasn’t all bad and I felt good at the end of it, but there were certainly some bumps in the road. I’ll omit trash mob pulls as they went fine and for the sake of brevity.

I load in, get put with a SCH that’s run it before, and a RDM and DNC that hasn’t, that’s not a big deal to me, I remembered the mechanics of all 3 bosses so I can just explain it to the new people and we’ll have a better run if I didn’t.
First boss wasn’t a problem, I explained the arrow mechanic and how it was just AOEs in a small sentence, one of the DPS got a vuln stack but there were no deaths, pretty good I say, but I noticed the SCH use Biolsys very, very early, almost before I used shield lob, I thought that this was just a impatient player who would rather rush head long into the boss instead of catching the new players up to speed, thusly wasting more time from the inevitable wipe/raises instead of they would just have explained the boss.
    (And yes, they were impatient)

Second boss rolls around and here’s where it gets bad, so I say that this one is a doozy, hinting at the fact that this will require more of a explanation, so then I try to explain the mechanics, but then this SCH decides its a great idea to start a 20 second countdown, and in that time I was able to explain the first mechanic (the one similar to 9S’s missles) but invisible AOE’s I couldn’t, and it wouldn’t have even taken long to explain it either. So thanks to the two players only knowing half the boss, everyone but the SCH dies at least once, resulting in wasted time that could’ve been saved if I just had time to explain, but the dummy decided that rushing head long into the boss without them or myself explaining would be a better idea. At the end of the boss I say in part chat something along the lines of, “So how did rushing in without catching people up to speed go? We would’ve saved more time by just explaining things rather than charging in headlong.” Accompanied my a fume emote, aka “You express your annoyance with So & So”

Third boss rears it fat head, and luckily the SCH deigned to let me explain the boss to the two people, they mumbled some nonsense in chat but I didn’t bother to read what it said. So after explaining in much detail as I can, we go at the boss, first run resulted in a wipe, but the second run we got it without much of a hitch, I think there was only a single death, compare that to my first run where we wiped 3 times. After the boss I say my goodbyes, get a triple triad card, roll a whopping 5 on the orchestrian roll, and leave with 2 commendations, and I’d be willing to bet the comms came from the two DPS.

Made me feel good, those two comms, for knowing that I likely got them for helping with the dungeon and not just playing my job well.

Moral of the story is to always be patient and help out your fellow man, instead of being overly zealous

The trusts deal with various incoming attacks in a very scripted, deliberate and obvious way, making it quite clear exactly how each mechanic is supposed to be handled. It's far easier to learn mechanics by watching what they do than it is to watch other players since players are far more inconsistent at handling mechanics.

Also as an aside, I suggest that you might want to stop sharing your opinion about Trusts since you don't have even basic knowledge about them. You're coming across as ignorant on top of the already arrogant tone of your posts.

I hate to quibble over details, but I really dislike people continuing to ascribe all kinds of things to my posts which I neither stated nor even hinted at.

In point of fact I never, not once, shared my opinion about Trusts. As I have never used Trusts, something I was honest about from the start, it’s impossible for me to have any opinion on them one way or the other. I don’t use them not because I disapprove of the idea, but because they are unusable with a party of two, which happens to be how I normally play. Something I also stated plainly. Why should I fear “coming across as ignorant” when I openly admitted to knowing nothing about them and asking questions as to how they work? My ignorance of the system is not a secret.

The only opinions that I expressed in this particular exchange were that the mentality that new players should be relegated to solo content made me sad and that I love the FFXIV community and have come to expect a lot from it. After my first post on the subject was so grossly misinterpreted I made a concentrated (and apparently futile) effort to express myself as articulately and civilly as possible.

If you misconstrue civility and genuine curiosity about an unfamiliar in-game system as arrogance, then I’m at a loss as to how to communicate with you.

I actually went into the dungeon with all of us being first timers to it.

But I suspect the party was pretty experienced overall. Still I admit that new dungeon is a step harder than the previous ones. The trash mobs are weaker than normal for Expert level Roulettes up to this point, but really screwy to deal with and gather up for AoEs in places, but some of those boss mobs are have some really interesting mechanics to them. Tank was really good and handled the screwiness with mob gathering well, but it was odd to deal with.

We only wiped once, and that was to the Cyclops boss. He got us on the initial step with the Hammers and Swords before we knew how they worked. After that we cleaned up... but... at the end the comments kinda went like this...

Player 1: hmm, that was a thing.
Me: Well that was screwy, cool but screwy.
    Player 3: Easy Peasy
Player 4: umm yeah well we handled it well.

Somehow we cleared without barely a hitch. But we're sitting there dumbfounded going... ummm for some reason we don't feel like we should have made through that as easily as we did.

I didn't know what to make of it because it was completely different than your run of the mill dungeon run.

My run of the new dungeon today was a bit of a bummer. I've found that early into patches, people seem to be slightly more chatty which I appreciate. I'm not needing full-blown conversations, but give me just a little something! Today was just quiet and sad. lol. I said hello!...no reply. I tried the tiniest bit of small talk while we were waiting for mobs to spawn..no reply. No farewells either (although at this point I was expecting nothing). I didn't even win the bloody minion! /allthecurses.

Did Ruby-Weapon for the MSQ with some friends, we cleared it fast, it was alright. It's not hard on mechanics but there are some DPS-checks that can be tough on groups with low iLevel.

Later in the evening I did some daily roulette for stones, locked in for a random trial and got.. of course, Ruby-Weapon. All people other then me were new as it was to expected and most of them died early to quicksand. So I explained the mechanics to everyone and after two more pulls we got to phase 2. I explained phase 2 too but we failed a few times because of low DPS. Some people got a little angry because of the low deeps but we kept on trying and finally made it. Of course, not one single recommendation but that's the PUG life.

I also did some fishing. Met a cool group on the ship, talking about that this is the real new raiding scene. Somehow I triggered a mechanic/event and we got some pretty northern lights at the third stop which also pushed our catch-quality to the top and unlocked some rare fish. That was nice.

Did a leveling roulette as a healer and was kinda disappointed when I saw it was Toto Rak. Had a couple of first timers in there. It was a slow run but actually enjoyable. It was nice seein them take their time and enjoy the place a bit. Also all the jokes we made about not liking spiders and scorpions added to the fun. It was nice to slow down for a change.

Heads up: bitchachy post. The frustration got real.

Okay, so... Just attempted new dungeon for the first time. Healer will literally not heal. They did this weird "bubble regen" macro thing (never heard of it until now, so it must be a higher level WHM skill) to make it look like they were healing, but they were not. So, I was trying to heal with my crappy (in comparison to an actual healer) DNC heal and mitigate with my shields. Maybe if I do it enough, healer will get the hint and HEAL.

No. Healer did not heal. Tank started to pull smaller pulls as a result, healer still did not heal but at least the tank's HP only went down to about 40% instead of like... 3%.

Would think the healer would start to heal during the boss fights? Nope. Healer still did not heal. Wiped three times on the first boss. Did that teach them to, you know, heal? No. They still did not heal. We get to the second boss and there's still the issue with them not healing. They literally only did this "bubble regen" and a CD heal that brought the tank up to full HP. No Medica, no Medica II (SHOCKING, I know!).

I decided to leave by the second or third wipe of the second boss because healer was not going to heal and if healer isn't going to heal, then the dungeon is going to continue to take a seriously long time and why put myself through that when I can just wait for the next day and go in with a healer I know who will heal...

I think that was the worst healer I've come across in a long time. Everyone else was good. Tank was good, used their CDs and such. DPS was good, used their CDs and was pretty clever with coming up with ideas, et cetera. If I had stayed, I would've commed the DPS because they seemed the most deserving.

I get that healing sucks atm (I dropped healing after six years of maining heals because healing sucks so bad right now), but please do your job if you're going to play healer. Otherwise, just switch to a DPS class. With the rate they healed, might as well be DNC or RDM. (Oh wait, they both heal more.)

To be fair, you're allowed to vent after such a run in the infamous DF. Sometimes you run into people that make you want to reach through the screen and punch them in the face. But since that's unfortunately not possible, venting is the next best thing
