I was browsing some FFXIV sub reddits and came across this.

He received a 3 day ban following spamming holy in Limsa. Some people got annoyed by it and reported him for it....

This feels like a reach for any kind of punishable actions with FFXIV... Is the ToS coverage of anything that might affect another player getting out of hand?

You can get banned for swearing but there's a chat filter.

You can get banned for spamming abilities but you can turn other people's abilities off.

What a silly game.

Why defend spamming? Using an ability is NOT spamming. If you don't like it. There is literally an option to turn off all spell affects for someone not in your group (or even your own group) For that to even be actionable is insane.

To be fair, if someone asked them to stop and they kept doing it anyway then it'd probably be considered harassment. I wasn't aware of anyone ever being punished for spamming an ability though. I guess to the GMs spam is spam. I think it's a little silly but...their ToS, their rules I suppose.

If you were following someone and spamming it, sure. Harassment it can be. But if you're standing in 1 spot, spamming holy... You aren't harassing anyone. They can walk away. They can turn your abilities off.

That is sure dumbest thing ever heard about to ban someone over. What is next ban players that's standing next to npc because giving you hard time talking to them. SE going over board on what ToS says. Sounds like they don't want keep players and there subs. I guess they better remove all emotes and skills in town.

The player admits he got a "strike" before so he must be rather troublesome, I want to believe the GMs are impartial and know what they do!.

Yeah, I think this is silly, especially considering they said it's "Chat spam".

Does this mean I can report people that chain-craft in public areas for chat spam?
