If this is the real reason then I find it really silly to limit a race that doesn't need to be due to the complexities of the other. If the situation were reversed, and Viera were the complex one but they were able to easily update Hrothgar along with the rest of the races, then I would want them to do that. Arbitrarily limiting one race, because the other one came out at the same time doesn't make sense to me.

It doesn't make sense to me either honestly, but for now it looks like the most possible scenario. Because except this and resources issues I can't think about anything else - there is a race that is more complex than Viera in terms of haircuts, and this is Miqo'te, yet we recieve everything without issues or delays. And with resources - they could at least adapt haircuts that they add starting from 5.0 and those from Mog Station at least, yet they decided not to...

Though who knows, maybe they will just drop a big bunch of haircuts at one day - they did announce adding Shinryu weps for DNC/GNB after all. Maybe it will be the same here.

There is a theory among some users (with which I tend to agree tbh) that the main reason why Viera don't recieve new haircuts is that they go in combination with Hrothgars. Leaving those the only race without haircuts would be just unfair, especially with the fact they can't even change those they have without buying fantasia. But this is just an assumption that was based on the fact Viera don't have any real technical issues with their heads.

back in 2.0, Yoship said in an interview somewhere that he would "never do gender locked races" as Roe and Miqo were gender locked in 1.x, and thus they added the other genders in 2.0 when he came on board. Then 6 years later they put in gender locked races because "It wouldn't have been possible to do both genders for both races, its too much work" Plus, they've said on many occasions that they basically treat Hrothgar and Viera as one race in development, simply one of them being of each gender. So I have to wonder what's so difficult for them...

this is what happens when insteado f doign an amazing race with two genders that many players will enjoy you release two halves of higly wanted races, already alienating many fo the players who wanted them in the first place, and then nto only do you onyl release those halves but theyre even unfinished. Hope they remvoe the restrictions (gender, gear and hairstyles) on 6.0, but I've lost my faith in SE tbh

While I'm not against male Viera or female Hrothgar at all, I think it's safe to say even if they did the same race but both genders we'd be having this same conversation.

Ah yes... I feel so immersed in the world when my hair stylist magically forgets how to clip my hair a certain way, or when that hat I just acquired magically becomes invisible the second I put it on my head.

Wait no. No I don't. In fact, that actively breaks my immersion because now I'm not thinking about the loot I'm collecting on my journey through the dungeon, I'm thinking about how frustrated and disappointed I am that I'm once again unable to wear something I could wear if I was playing one of literally any other race while receiving absolutely zero alternative or additional customization options to compensate for those racial limitations.

Yes, I know this story. More than this, I remember a thread from pre-2.0 asking for adding male Miqo'te and female Roegadyns+Highlanders. The thread, where one of the very first responses in comments was "I'm against. Lore is more more important. This game doesn't need eye candy" from the person, who... ended up playing male Miqo'te in result. /shrugs/ The history repeats itself.

If a person changes race because they feel limited due to it literally having less options than most other races, then something is wrong with the options for that race.

Just my opinion, I dont really care either way. They could open up all hairstyles and clothes to all races and genders and I wouldnt blink an eye.

But once again just my opinion I like restrictions on races, genders, jobs, roles, etc...

I'm of the opinion that not everything should be equal, all classes shouldnt be equal, all choices shouldnt be equal, etc..

It's a video game and little choices should make a difference.

That's fair. My post sounds a bit angrier than I intended, I realize, and to be clear that's not really directed at you. I really am just irritated by how this whole thing has been handled.

Personally I'm not a fan of a lot of the limitations in the game, including several of the racial and gender locking ones... I'm not opposed to them existing, but some of them are just silly imo. The hempen sets, for one, are a pack of limits I'd love to see go by the wayside - especially now that Viera get to use the Midlander set, and don't even have their own at all. :/

For Viera and Hrothgar it's not even just the limits that bother me. They'll probably get more hats and hairs eventually, and it's looking like eventually is probably gonna mean something like "a rather long time from now." That really sucks, and so does the lack of communication. But really it's that these limits seem like they're partially planned and designed, and partially unplanned resource constraints, and there's not much clarity on which is which and exactly what these races are going to look like when SE is actually done updating them. They're both limited AND unfinished, and if they're going to have limited hair/hat options forever, then imo they should get something else to compensate. I wish they'd actually either waited to match them up to the other races, or committed to making them unique and giving them the same NUMBER of options in a different form. Instead we got... a weird in between. They're unique because of what they're missing instead of because of what they HAVE, and that's a real big shame.
