Performance can be used to be actively disruptive, interfere with music, audio cues, etc. Someone mashing a high-pitched note ten thousand times is not the same as getting upset that someone else doesn't look how you want them to and unlike, say, Guild Wars 2, glamour can't actually be visually disruptive either (as in obscuring important visual information or causing performance issues). Not liking how.someone else looks is not good enough. "Oh, I don't like tanks wearing non-amour! Oh, I don't like men wearing dresses! Oh, I don't like chocobo heads!" Where next? "I don't like coloured hair! I don't like people wearing Ultimate weapons! I don't like that player's roof!" It's nonsense and it's not a stance that SQEX should enable.
It's not really irrelevant, since quite a few people have come forward and stated different reasons for wanting particular glamour pieces to be hidden. There's a reason why the more silly quests - such as Hildibrand - exist in their own little bubble separate from everything else. Again, it doesn't affect you if someone wants to hide a particular piece of glamour that they find to be unappealing or jarring.

Did you miss the parts where this is entirely an optional feature that only the person using could see? It's not like OP is asking Sqeenix to remove glamours entirely, just a feature that lets someone, on their own display, turn them off. How hard is that to understand?

It's a straight up terrible idea. "Optional" doesn't make it good. The idea of suppressing the way players express their characters just because it doesn't line up with how you think people should look is not one that should be encouraged. It's an MMO. A social game. There are going to be a wide variety of people you encounter. If that bothers you, for whatever unsound reasons you would like to put forth, it's probably time to either play a different game that caters to your specific sensibilities or exclusively play with people who dress how you like. There's no reason to beg SQEX to erase other people's appearances because you don't like them. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Think Krotoan and the person that mentioned disabling style lock on FFXI had the right idea. A toggle that makes ever player character appear in their most recent class/job gear for the expac.

I'm not someone that cares if this option happens or not but don't see it as a bad thing and the arguments against it are pretty silly.

Is it really that bad? Like I see people make characters that make me turn up my nose too but that's their right. I don't have to look at them and I have no right to tell people what to do with their characters. I just let them live their lives. I think this is one of those times where it'll be better to shrug and move on.

The 'live and let live' approach is not at all at odds with this suggestion. In fact, it's reinforced by it.

It's about compromising. Nobody misses out. It isn't taking anything away from anybody. It just means that the players who want to wear whatever glamour they wish can still do as much, though the people who do not wish to see it have the option to blacklist it if they desire.

What's ridiculous is the fact that you're acting like everybody would be affected by this when only the ones who choose to use the feature would. Everyone who doesn't have the feature on would still see everything as intended.

Nobody is denying anybody their ability to glamour however they want. This would only be visible to those who turn on the feature, everybody else will still see the glamours.

I'm still waiting for a solid reason not to want this. So far all I'm reading is: "I want to guarantee others have to deal with my personal appearance choices". If this was an option you would never know if someone was using it or not unless you chose to engage them about it AND they bothered to tell you.

I'm for this option, only because it really doesn't hurt anyone, and as long as its optional.
If you wanna see it, click a button, if not, ignore it.

IMO it does make me groan when I see 10+ catboys/girls wearing the same exact skimpy clothing, only because to me it's just boring to see such lack of imagination, but at the same time, it's not really hurting me so who really cares.

Most people with outlandish glamours literally do it JUST so they can get a rise out of people. I know a few people who put on dresses on their male characters, not to express themselves, but because they know it disturbs people. I know people who wear bikini's on their characters JUST because they think Miqo'te are sexy, I know people who wear wear the frog suit and dye it metallic ONLY because it's obnoxious.

Like I said before. if your "Expressing yourself" is predicated on how uncomfortable, annoyed, or upset you can make people with your glamours; your personality sucks. It's not my fault you have so little faith in your personality that you can't just talk to people, or let your words represent you.

Fun fact: Running around as an Au'ra White Mage in a thong or a male in a wedding dress doesn't make people think "Wow this person is unique or interesting!" it makes them think, and likely accurately so,'Wow, what a tosser."
